re-re Posted May 2, 2012 #51 Share Posted May 2, 2012 I did the same thing on my 1st cruise but after being in the chair from 8am-6pm , I opted for the cornrows for the last 2. I have never been a weave girl, so i was wondering , if you get a sew-in, you can get it wet and then it will just air dry and don't have to do anything to it so that it will still look good? It all depends on the hair, wet and wavy can get wet....Just make sure it's a decent brand of hair, the cheap stuff will have you looking like light socket sally:eek:

Delta Dear Posted May 19, 2012 #54 Share Posted May 19, 2012 LOL You would be surprised at how many celebrities (non African Americans) wear hair extensions. We're just a lot more open to talking about it. Here's a video for you and Delta Dear so you can see how to "sew in hair". :) This is me without my braids and "sewn in " hair. ;) LOL, Thanks, GA Pearl. I do know how hair is braided in because I watch it being done at the shop where I get my hair 'did.' I will show this to my husband, LOL, to satisfy his curiosity. AdrianUT Posted May 20, 2012 #55 Share Posted May 20, 2012 I've been natural for about 6-7 years. My hair is arm pit length and is really curly and thick (Sort of like Tracee Ellis Ross). I will probably flat iron the night before boarding and it will likely keep like that the first 2-3 days or until I get wet/sweat. I wrap it nightly. After I swim or sweat, I'll wash it and wear it in a bun/ponytail maybe with a braid across the front or similar. It will for sure get wet in Cozumel and I will just rinse it on the beach and gel it back. I may or may not straighten it again on the cruise just depending on my mood. I had micro braids many years ago and it took 2 days to get them done and they only lasted about 1 month d/t my hair developing a halo of fuzz that I couldn't slick down. They also took like a week to take down. I've never had a weave or worn a wig. It just seems like it would make me hotter? I use Loreal's Evercreme line and a gel from the Everstyle line and occasionally argan oil serum from Sally's. These products really keep the humidity out and the POOF down. I figure if they work here in the Houston heat they will work in Mexico or similar.
suchaclassylady Posted June 3, 2012 #56 Share Posted June 3, 2012 I've finally made up my mind! Janet Jackson's Poetic Justice braids are back in style :D and I'm all over this trend! I dread (no pun intended) getting them wet, OHHHH the weight of all that wet hair...but I've just gotta have it! I'll put it all up in a high bun and let it air dry over cocktails on our balcony. I'll let you ladies know how it goes!

lotusbogardi Posted June 4, 2012 #58 Share Posted June 4, 2012 Just back from 7 days on the Pride, and rocked the natural the whole trip. The only time I really had a problem was after I got back from the Dolphin swim. I should have washed my hair immediately, instead of taking a nap. Detangling took extra long, but I finally got it to shape up! xenagurl Posted June 10, 2012 #60 Share Posted June 10, 2012 I'll happily rock a fro, braid-out or twist-out. The same thing I do in my day to day life. It's me, and it makes getting ready super easy on vacation.
atinys Posted June 12, 2012 #61 Share Posted June 12, 2012 i have had loc's for about 3 years. My first cruise, i just wore them lose... My last cruise i rolled them a day or so before the cruise so I could wear them curly. My curls fell so i did an updo with a bang for formal night. jusluvcruisin Posted June 13, 2012 #62 Share Posted June 13, 2012 last year i just wore my relaxed hair in a ponytail for excursions and ship activities. formal night i wore it down. this year im natural so i will opt for a wet and wavy weave. i know it holds up well because i usually do that when i vacation in the caribbean.
