billroddy Posted May 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2012 I said goodbye to Catalina and in Los Angeles boarded an ancient train for New York City. Come aboard once more. http://americahurrah.com/MerchantMarine/ChapterFour.htm Bll Ancient Mariner
fatcat04 Posted May 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2012 I've heard the stories from relatives about shipping out from Nashville's Union Station (thankfully this lovely train station has been preserved from demolition). There was a USO canteen there and many young men and women shipped out for the war from Nashville. Hard for some of us younger folks to imagine train travel much less troop trains. I love their stories and old photos. Thank you for sharing yours with us. :)
PathfinderEss Posted May 2, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2012 Wow, not a great way to travel, and sleep toe to toe, yuck. I guess we are more spoiled today, or maybe it is because we are older, you think :DThanks Bill.:)
