RCI Cassis tour

Hi. We'll be docking in Toulon on a Sunday in June on the Liberty of the Seas. Toulon is our last port to figure out - everything else is on our own, but I'm considering a ship tour for Toulon.

Has anyone done the Cassis tour through RCI? I'm wondering if they provide any time to see the Calanques from the water? We have kids with us and think that Cassis may be the best option for us, as long as we can get on to the water.

The other option is to do it on our own, but the train seems to be a bit of a hassle since the station isn't convenient on either end. Renting a car may be a possibility, but since it's Sunday (and many places are closed) that also seems a bit inconvenient.

Thanks for any advice!

We haven't been yet but we dock in Toulon with the NCL Spirit on a Thursday in June. We have kids too and have considered all options for getting to Cassis, since this seems the best option with kids. You need to read the description RCL gives and go by that. The NCL description was clear that it did not include time on the water. That is done by purchasing tickets and going on the boat tours and those tickets are bought once there. We ended hiring a private driver for the day because I didn't see any other way of doing it. The train doesn't go all the way into Cassis because of the way the land is laid out. Renting a car seemed like a hassle and the ship tour wasn't what we wanted. We wanted beach time also and not to be rushed back.

Our driver/guide will take us to Cassis for the day and we will explore on our own timing and if we have extra time, we may make a stop at near by Sanary. The guide said this about it "Sanary also a place to consider to end the day if there is still a little bit of time. It's just a delightful little town with picturesque colorful streets, a small harbor with old wooden boats."

This is the tour description we choose"

2 - We spend the day in the little fishing port of Cassis (40 minutes from the ship) which is famous for its location itself between cliffs, sea and vineyards and for its Calanques (kind of little fjords with high limestone cliffs) we could see by boat if it is not too windy. It's also possible to go to the beach (pebbles and not sand), have a picnic lunch somewhere.

Here is more info from her about Cassis:The boat ride to see 3 Calanques is 45 minutes. If it's quiet it won't be a problem. If it's too windy they simply don't operate. The beaches between the Calanques are not reachable by car. It's necessary to walk. Otherwise there is a beach downtown which will be crowded or rocks from where you can jump outside of the town. There are 2 other beaches not far from the town with pebbles also but just at the foot of the cliff of Cap Canaille. Cassis is very spectacular with these cliffs everywhere.

World Gallery - thanks for the info. The RCI description mentions that many people go to Cassis to see the cliffs, but doesn't say either way if they do as part of this excursion.

I was hoping to not spend the money on a private tour, but maybe we'll need to consider it.

Have fun on your cruise in June!

You may want to compare the ship's cost to private. I think it was slightly less with the ship but with the ship, it was half the amount of time, so really, it costs more. We have 5 kids, so we are a total of 7 people so I think the more people you have for a private tour, the better the cost per person.
