Leaving the Ship after Embarkation

Recommended Posts

A question for anyone who has started a cruise in Venice. We are due to sail shortly from Venice, and have an early flight, which means we shall probably be on board at lunchtime. We would like to make a quick visit to a shop we once found near the Sclalzi bridge, at the port end of the Grand Canal. Having gone through embarkation, how easy is it to leave the ship afterwards, exit the port gates and return before the departure deadline?:

It should be OK, depending on the time of departure (and also muster), don't think there's any rule that says you can't, but could you not visit the shop before you embark? Or, will you have too much luggage?

We have yet to sail from a European port but I know that here in the US and in Canada you can drop off your luggage but not board directly.

I would look into that option because then you know that you can go off to your shop and just return to board.

Thanks Guys - We thought we'd probably have to drop the luggage first, because the RCI rep would be taking us direct to the ship, probably by coach from the airport. Guess we'll probably play it by ear.

We sailed from Venice last year and whilst we got to the port ourselves as we had stayed the night before, you drop your luggage off at a building that is not connected to the building where you check-in so as such, you could get off the transfer with the cruise line, check in your luggage and walk out of the port to the people mover (1 euro charge) which will take you in to the main part of Venice where the buses come in and then you could get to where you want to go from there (sorry I'm not sure where it is in venice). The people mover is probably a 5 - 7 minute walk if you are able bodied.

We are also sailing from Venice again on the 16th June - which cruise are you on?

Thanks for that - it sounds simple enough. Unfortunately we won't see you - we are sailing on Splendour on May 19th! Have a nice cruise.
