Review: Liberty April 14 - 21, 2012

We loved the shops at Grand Turk. Margaritaville was a hi-lite. People were getting in line to have their photo taken with the big bird. We were no different.

It was our last elegant night on the Carnival Liberty. You know we had to make our rounds to the Carnival photographers.

After pictures, we headed off to dinner in the Silver Dining Room.

Great review and pics! Especially enjoying the pics of Grand Turk since I wasn't sure exactly what was at each place (beach, pool, etc.) Considering doing the snorkeling excursion on my Liberty cruise in September.

We really enjoyed Grand Turk. The snorkeling was great. The shops were very good. I bought several things here. I wish we would have had time to enjoy the beach here. The water was gorgeous. I would love to come back again and enjoy the beach, that is within walking distance, and the shops. Carnival did a fabulous job on this port.

At dinner I just couldn't stomach another water downed lemonade, so I ordered a yummy margarita. I love the straw shaped like a heart.

Again, I tried another dessert. Who would have thought they could screw up cheesecake. But, they did. Thank goodness I also ordered the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake.

Later that night we went to the Venetian Palace to see the show. It was really good. While we were in port at Grand Turk he came on the ship from the other Carnival ship that was docked beside us.

After the show I had to stop and have my photo made with the Casino Vault that had everyone mesmerized all week.

We went to see the comedian later on that night.

The next day was bitter sweet. It was not only our last sea day, but our last day on the Carnival Liberty. Tried to go up to Serenity, but no empty seats. So we headed down the deck three to do some reading. As you can see in the photo, it was windy and pretty chilly.

The Legends show wasn't to begin until 10:30, and it was the only time the show was scheduled. So we watched another variety show with the crew and they did the drawings for the Cash Craze and the free cruise.

Its 10:30 and we are at our last show on the Liberty. This is the show where the guest perform as 'Legends'. I thought the outfits were great, but the singing was hard on the ears. But, you've got to give them kudos for getting up in front of everyone to sing.

The band getting warmed up.

The show only lasted about 40 to 45 minutes. The one thing that I was shocked about was how dead the ship was after the show. We went around the ship and there was hardly anyone about.

I was amazed that Carnival didn't host a Farewell party on the lido deck. Instead this is what we found.

We stopped for Ice cream. We didn't have much during the cruise. I would rate the ice cream as just ok. I wasn't a big fan. The strawberry was the best, but it was hardly ever available.

Last stop at the lemonade stand before going to bed.

Look how empty.

So here we are waiting to disembark the ship. We hated to see our week end.

A quick run down on the Good and the Bad.

Good.

1. The food in the MDR was very good, much better than I expected.

2. Guy's Burger Joint was very good. The french fries were awesome.

3. The jewelry shop was a big hit. I went in there several times a day and bought several things.

4. Lemonade from Emiles was very good.

5. Mango juice for breakfast was to die for and should have been available all day long.

6. Our room steward was great. He filled my small cooler up with ice every day. We saw him multiple times during the day and he would ask if there was anything we needed. He would call us by name. We tipped him an extra $25 on the last night.

7. The Cruise Director (Jamie), and the assistant CD (Christian) were outstanding. They were really involved with the guest and you saw them everywhere.

8. The excursions that we did thru Carnival were good.

9. Warm Melting Chocolate Cake. That's all I need to say.

10. The trivia games is a must see. HILARIOUS.

11. We enjoyed the Bingo, even though we never won anything.

12. Cash Craze pull tabs, I loved.

13. "kiss on the lips' drink was great, as was the margarita.

14 Loved the many photo opportunities available.

15. Must see the Liars Club comedy show that the staff put on. soooo funny.

BAD

1. Food from Emiles.

2. All desserts except the WCMC

3. Chair hogs.

4. The smoking drove me crazy on this cruise. It seemed like it was everwhere.

5. Casino. If I'm going to lose money I would like to at least enjoy myself while doing so. Instead I went thru about $50 in about 15 minutes. Not good if you want me to continue to play.

6. The Carnival store did not have a good selection. I only went in there about three times.

7. Was a little disappointed in the Steakhouse.

8. Upset we were not seated with tablemates and hated the location of our table.

9. All lines seemed to be very chaotic and disorganized.

10. The deck parties were very lame.

11. Could not believe there was not a farewell deck party the last night.

12. The main shows were boring. Wish they had more than 2 singers.

13. Wish they had photo packages.

These are of course my opinion based on our experience. I do believe I could be on the same ship on two different weeks and have completely different experiences.

I loved the ports, especially Grand Turk. I enjoyed my cruise and I would cruise again on Carnival. I would like to try out a different ship though.

I hope you enjoyed my review. I'll check back to see if anyone has any questions about the ship.

Thanks for writing. I Enjoyed reading your great review and pictures. We are going on this same cruise in August on the Liberty.
Is there anything you wished you had done differently in any of the ports or had more time for?
Thanks again,
John
The beach at Grand Turk is gorgeous. Here are a few photo's I took until we joined our tour group.

Do you know which beach this was? Was it directly off the pier? We are heading to Grand Turk in January and are looking for a nice beach in walking distance to the ship. Wonderful job on the review !!

John, I'm glad you enjoyed my review. I was disappointed that we were at the ports for a very short time. If you arrived at 8, then we left at 3:30. If we arrived at 10-11 then we left at 5:30. Someone said it was because the port fee are very high. But, if the ship stayed longer you could have more time on the Islands.

I really wished I had more time at the Rainforest. But I would not change the excursion we did because we got to go to the Fort. A must in San Juan, in my opinion, is the Rainforest and the Fort.

I would have liked to have gone to the beach in Grand Turk and lounged in those chairs under the palm trees. But, we didn't have time for that.

We loved the snorkeling, but to me the water was very cold.

I did not care for the shopping in either San Juan or St. Thomas. All they seemed to have was diamond stores. I wasn't buying jewelry, so I did not feel there were adequate shops.

Grand Turk was amazing. Loved, Loved it. The shops were great.

I hope you have an amazing time on your cruise.

Nik23, I don't know the name of the beach, but it is right off the pier after you go thru Duffries (I think is the name). Duffries is a duty free store. There is a beach on either side of the pier. Lots of chairs, beautiful sand and water.

Smurfm69 - I would love to visit New Orleans. I hear the cemeteries are a great place to visit, along with the plantations. Maybe one day we will leave from there.
