nellie Posted May 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2005 can anyone recommend a good light tackle fishing boat. RCCL cancelled its fishing excusion on the Granduer and we really would like to go fishing. There are 20 of us so we would need to go on a boat that holds alot of people. southernmost Posted May 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2005 With a group that size, you have only one option: party boat fishing. All other charter boats are limited to a 6 passenger maximum. There are three party boats that operate in Key West. They each specialize in taking groups of up to 80 people for a fishing excursion. Usually the crowd is considerably less, depending on the boat. Many anglers are bottom fishing: dropping their baits to the bottom, in hopes of catching a grouper hiding in the rocky bottom. Others will try for fish swimming higher up the water column, like yellowtail snappers. Either way, it's usually a lot of rod bending fun. Plenty of nibbles, and more than a few fish are usually caught. Trips run at different times. Some are 4 hour trips, some are longer. Depending on the time that your ship comes in, you'll need the right boat to coordinate with. Party boat fishing is $35 per person, and usually includes everything (rods, reels, tackle, bait). The better boat has an air-conditioned galley with a well stocked snack bar. Best Fishes!
