zink88 Posted May 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2012 We will be in Cozumel in 2 weeks and are looking at getting a rental to Tour the island. Punta Sur is one area I would like to see. Would a Jeep be required to reach the beach, or are the roads passable with any rental car?
diverearl Posted May 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2012 We will be in Cozumel in 2 weeks and are looking at getting a rental to Tour the island. Punta Sur is one area I would like to see. Would a Jeep be required to reach the beach, or are the roads passable with any rental car? The south end, Parque Punta Sur and the whole east side of the island is easily accessible by any rental. The only time you would need a four wheel drive jeep would be if you wanted to go to the north end (lighthouse at the north end of the island). savvy60 Posted June 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2012 The Punta Sur Eco park is administered by the Cozumel Parks and Museum Foundation. There is an admission fee of 12USD per adult and $6USD for children ages 3-11. Children under 3 enter free. No food or drinks may be taken into the park (there are 2 snack bars in the park). The park is open daily 9 to 5 (but you can not access the road to the beach after 2 PM). See the parks website http://www.Cozumelparks,com for more info. Keep in mind: if you rent a car or moto on Cozumel, the insurance DOES NOT COVER ANY ACCIDENT OR MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN that occurs while driving on a dirt road. ALL roads in the park are dirt roads. If you want to drive around to the east side of the island (or any other part of the island, for that matter) pick up a free copy of THE BIG YELLOW BEACH MAP OF COZUMEL, available at all car and moto scooter rental agencies. The large, detailed map is also available as a free download from http://www.EverythingCozumel.com
