Biza Posted June 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2012 My 7 year old loves animals and we want to check out the Belize Zoo when we are in Belize in August. Admission to the zoo is $15 for adults and $5 for children, yet all of the companies running tours to the zoo seem to charge $70-$90 per person. This seems a bit ridiculous (unless I am missing something)... Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get to the zoo?

cruisergrandma Posted June 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2012 We hired someone at the dock. His name was Griffith and he was inside the gate with a group selling tours. Don't remember what we paid but it included admission and a personal tour of the zoo. Here is his email syesue_bz@yahoo.com. It was a great tour and I highly recommend him. World Gallery Posted July 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2012 Belize is just a very different kind of port. It does not have an organized taxi station like in Cozumel. I personally would not hire anyone on the spot in Belize. Also, the zoo is about an hour's drive one way so that is why it costs so much.
cruisergrandma Posted July 2, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2012 We have used Griffith 3 different times. I HIGHLY recommend him.
KroozFoolz Posted July 2, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Thanks so much for posting about Griffith and how to contact him. I emailed him and heard back from him today. The cost of the city and zoo excursion is now $55 per person (due to an increase in admission to the zoo according to Griffith) but that is still about $15 pp less than Carnival's price. Some will take advantage so if you have good recommendations that is great. The Zoo is a fair ride out of the city. For a taxi ride, I would expect to pay $20-$30 each way for the cab 3-4 passengers. Plus zoo admission and waiting time for the return. An hour ride each way plus waiting. Gas is about $6 us a gal.
