We have had balconies on Caribe , Baja & Aloha and all the balconies had a glass front .

I pulled up a photo of the stern of the Ruby and found the stateroom that you are referring to. It appears to be glass below the rail just like the rest. The balcony appears to be totally normal.

That particular stateroom is next to the vent and does not have a beam.

Is being close to the vent an issue?

At times, the vent can give off an odor. At times it is obnoxious.
