Cake and non sailing wedding guests

Recommended Posts

I know some of you may think I'm incredibly cheap and/or quite ghetto for asking this question:

But,

Can your non sailing guests take the wedding cake with them? I don't want it to go to waste, and I know my FI and I won't eat it ever again during the cruise. What about all of the other crudites?

I know you can't take food off when you arrive back in the states, but what about before you have even left?

This is a great question that I would also like to know the answer too.

I have another question regarding cake as well. Does the cake cutting have to be done first or can you request it to happen towards that end of the reception (like 30 min before it ends)?

Sorry Herbaltees for hijacking your thread. I figured since my question relates to cake then I shouldn't start a new thread.

No problem. I don't have the answer to your question either. But I did read from one bride that we should request to have the cake cut (on carnival at least) because otherwise guests must cut slices for themselves.

No one is allowed to leave the ship with the cake whether it be before sailing or when you get back.

Also, I never heard of anyone having to request the cake cutting. That's crazy if they really have to do that. I was married on Carnival Magic in May and they did the cake cutting for us. We didn't even have to cut our piece to feed each other. We pretended we did for pictures, then sliced a little bit of it, then they took over to get us our piece. They served cake to all the guests. If fact, they passed the cake out. Our guests didn't even have to walk to the cake table to get there piece. We did not request anythings.

You can control how you want your reception to go. So if you want to do the cake cutting late then they will. I wasn't going to do mine until the middle of the reception, but the coordinator talked me into doing it first. I was glad for this. It took a few minutes to do and we just got it out of the way instead of having to take time away from our guests later on. This worked perfect too because some of our guests had eaten lido buffet and so they were not hungry for hors' devoures. They were able to enjoy the cake instead!

Thank you for this info. I know it was a fairly recent review where the bride said her brother had to cut himself a slice of cake.

I don't think that's a crazy question at all- I wish we could have had non-sailing guests take cake. First of all, it was the most delicious cake I have ever had but some did essentially go to waste even though they brought it out every night for dessert (you can still get other desserts). On the last night we brought the few slices left to our cabin. We were pretty caked out by then and we let our niece eat the rest with her hands (we forgot forks). That was actually a pretty fun memory. I don't know why your guests couldn't take cake, since you won't have left U.S. waters yet (assuming it is embarkation day). The ship probably won't have containers for it. But maybe you could bring a few. My sister was able to carry my live flowers off- so I don't know why cake would be a ny different.

Nobody had to cut the cake for themselves. We did the very first slice into the cake then Carnival took over, handing us our first shared piece and then taking cake around to our guests. I can't imagine anyone having to cut their own slice UNLESS they declined a slice at first and then changed their minds. There is not going to be a designated cake slicer throughout the entire reception. That would be a waste of manpower. Also, I would be surprised if anyone actually cut into a wedding cake before the married couple. I would say you have a problem with your guest list if that happened :-)

Happy Planning!

They cut our cake for us in the middle of the reception. We had 31 guest but there was still a TON of cake left. They kept the cake for me and served at dinner the rest of the cruise. It was great!

Carnival is very helpful and will do it anyway you want.

And no, I do not believe they will let you take any food off the ship. But maybe it can be hidden ;-)

If you had non-sailing guests, were they able to eat at the buffet before the wedding?

Is there a certain meeting place for wedding guests set ahead of time or do they have the freedom to explore the ship?

After the reception, can they enjoy the ship and amenties before disembarking one hour prior to sailing?

How do they keep track of non sailing guests?

Thanks

We got married 6 months ago on Carnival Inspiration.

Our non sailing guests could not take the cake off the ship, my aunt tried to walk off with a piece wrapped up and she was stopped.

When we talked with the coordinator the morning of our wedding, she asked when do you want to do the cake cutting, so you can arrange it when you like. They told us how to cut it, we cut it, fed each other the bite and then a waiter steps in to cut, plate and distribute the cake to everyone. This wasn't something we had to ask for, it was just done.

At dinner, the cake was never brought out to us, but we were able to ask for it. We did a couple times, just to have a little more of it.

  • 3 years later...
oh no I was hoping to save my top tier for my 1 year wedding anniversary:(

It is one of those things that you give up when you have a cruise wedding. I think this one falls under USDA, but is regulated by USCBP. Some people have luck taking flowers and food off, and others don't. Our cake was served as dessert the first two nights, so we didn't have any to bring back.

No one is allowed to leave the ship with food. Our cake (only a portion of the bottom of our 4 tier cake was left) was offered to us each night at dinner with ice cream. Also, at dinner on the first night (our wedding day) they brought it out with candles and flowers and sang "happy honeymoon" to us. Your non-sailing guests can eat at the buffet but not sure why they would want to. The reception food is AMAZING and it would be such a waste to fill up on lido deck food before. Carnival will try to sell you the buffet for your non-sailing guests but all they have to do is remove their guest badges (and the coordinators will probably tell them this). While you're waiting to board the coordinators go around and tell everyone where to be and at what time and give out deck plans of the ship. Until that time they are free to explore. Not exactly sure what you mean about after the reception being able to explore - the reception will last until it is time to go and they will be escorted off. When the non-sailing guests check in they are given guest badges and have to turn in photo ID or birth certificates if under age 16. Trust me, no one is sneaking on that ship. They verify the numbers that every single person on, gets off when it's time to go.
