Going to Grand Bahama for the 1st time

Will be on the NCL Sky in February 2013.

 

I generally like city highlight/history tours during my visits to new places with a chance for a lil shopping.

 

Is Grand Bahama similiar to other POC in that, I can just join up with a group once we leave the ship? I know in Nassau, they have the tour operators at the end of the pier and you can go with them once they get a big enough group together. Is Grand Bahama similiar or is it better to book thru the ship for this location?

 

Any other suggestions or must see for this stop?

There are some tours available once you get off the ship... but I doubt you'll find a historical tour of the island. The available options all seem to focus on the Port Lucaya area. If you want to go anywhere else, you should make prior arrangements. :cool:

Silly me just realized Grand Bahama Island is Freeport. And here I thought I was going somewhere "exotic". Either way, it'll be my first time there.
