On the 6-30-12 Liberty... Diamond/Milestone sailing

Recommended Posts

Well, they DID have the new cards (surprised me) and Diamond ship pin.

The Chief Purser called yesterday to invite us to dine with the captain - which is, at least on this sailing, the Diamond perk related to the captain.

Have yet to receive any info on the new past guest party.

Having a great time -- won enough in the casino last night such that, even if I lose my daily allotment each of the following days, I should still go home a winner! :)

There won't be a formal "review"... pretty much all that I have to say will be mentioned here throughout the sailing. I purchased the EIGHT HOUR internet package, so I should be OK with minutes! :D

I inquired of guest services today when the past guest party would be and was told that it's typically on Wednesday, but that was not yet confirmed.

They had a BJ tournament today, I went ahead and purchased (for both of us) the BOGO tournament entries. I made it to second place on the qualifying board with my second try. Then prior to the tournament there were SIX people who, through astounding luck, all earned 6,000+ in the next to the last round --- bumping me out of the finals. There was one additional qualifying round which i threw my hat into. I was one hand away (on the 7th/final hand) from getting FIRST place on the qualifying board but the dealer had a 20, beating my 18 after I was ALL IN. One thing I will note is poor sportsmanship from those who had just lucked their way onto the board. They were literally rooting for the dealer to get blackjacks and such so that people in the last round (including yours truly) would lose. I have played in many tournaments, but never witnessed people outright rooting for players to lose! ... classy ...

I read earlier that the Pin was the same for Diamond, and Platinum. I'm surprised at the card. The photos shown earlier of the new cards showed a WHITE card for Diamond? Looks to me like it's the same color as the Platinum card?

Just received two pairs of binoculars as our gift.

Tom

Thanks so much for taking time on your cruise to update all of us :)

Happy for you on the slot win(s)..and boo for the poor sports at the tournament :(

I love your pin....I just left the Liberty yesterday, and the platinum pin I received was oval, blue, with a Whale Tail and it just said Platinum, no year. I was happy with that, though. They still had the old program, and I received my backpack, which I used in the ports. Very handy.

I got the free slot tournament, and forgot to go :(.

I loved having Karl (with a K) as cruise director, he was all over the place. He was even there when we returned to Miami.

Enjoy the Liberty, she is a fine ship.

I gotta ask... are they nice.. or cheap

Well, it's at least NICE of them to give them to us. I have not really taken them out and looked at them, as we'll be re-gifting them. Also, I would rather not take them out to where they could see our binoculars - over concerns of them getting an inferiority complex... ;) :D

Karl is definitely out and about more than most CD's. We went to the "big show" last (Elegant) night. Prior to the show he indicated "are you ready for 70's ROCK?... do you like 80's ROCK?... then this is the show for you"! Imagine our surprise when they played no less than a dozen songs in a row from the 50's and 60's! We are talking sock hop here. FAR from the 70's and 80's! We left after about 30 minutes. Not worth the time... :( When I spoke to Karl later (listening to Music Asia in the casino... they are VERY good) about the "decades off" music he kind of shrugged it off and handed us Motown trivia slips, LOL. I asked him when the past guest party was going to occur and he confirmed the Wednesday date.

Docked in Cozumel right now, sitting in the shade of our balcony right now. Our plans are limited (really for this whole cruise). We'll be trying our first "Guy's" burger shortly, then off the ship for our obligatory margarita at Pancho's Backyard at the pier. Then, before we succumb to the Mexican sun/heat, we'll head straight back to the ship! :D

We've had two VERY good meals in the Steakhouse - looking forward to #3 this evening.

I was told that the BJ tournament on the first sea day was unusual, and that they usually had a slot tournament that day. This was due to the 4th falling on a Wednesday and they wanted to have a BIG slot tournament that day, with a special $1,000 prize (instead of the usual $500). That should be a busy event! The casino staff (dealers, hosts, manager) are all great folks. When we dined at Diamond's last night, they had apparently arranged for that night to be complimentary, with the wine as well. We had already ordered the wine the evening prior, so that it could be decanted prior to our arrival. So I was pleased that it was the night they picked to cover it all, being that it was wine #464 on their list (someone out there can do the searching on that one)!! :)

We did utilize the laundry service yesterday around noon for a few items, and were surprised to see it returned before 6 PM the same day!

We have ordered room service a couple of times and had fast service (15 minutes) each time.

The bed does not seem as comfortable as we have experience in times past - and Carnival's beds have usually been our favorite among cruise lines. Perhaps these are getting near the end of their service life.

OK -- time to get the rest of the day going... bound to have a brilliant time! :D
