On the 6-30-12 Liberty... Diamond/Milestone sailing

Recommended Posts

Karl is definitely out and about more than most CD's. We went to the "big show" last (Elegant) night. Prior to the show he indicated "are you ready for 70's ROCK?... do you like 80's ROCK?... then this is the show for you"! Imagine our surprise when they played no less than a dozen songs in a row from the 50's and 60's! We are talking sock hop here. FAR from the 70's and 80's! We left after about 30 minutes. Not worth the time... :( When I spoke to Karl later (listening to Music Asia in the casino... they are VERY good) about the "decades off" music he kind of shrugged it off and handed us Motown trivia slips, LOL. I asked him when the past guest party was going to occur and he confirmed the Wednesday date.

Docked in Cozumel right now, sitting in the shade of our balcony right now. Our plans are limited (really for this whole cruise). We'll be trying our first "Guy's" burger shortly, then off the ship for our obligatory margarita at Pancho's Backyard at the pier. Then, before we succumb to the Mexican sun/heat, we'll head straight back to the ship! :D

We've had two VERY good meals in the Steakhouse - looking forward to #3 this evening.

I was told that the BJ tournament on the first sea day was unusual, and that they usually had a slot tournament that day. This was due to the 4th falling on a Wednesday and they wanted to have a BIG slot tournament that day, with a special $1,000 prize (instead of the usual $500). That should be a busy event! The casino staff (dealers, hosts, manager) are all great folks. When we dined at Diamond's last night, they had apparently arranged for that night to be complimentary, with the wine as well. We had already ordered the wine the evening prior, so that it could be decanted prior to our arrival. So I was pleased that it was the night they picked to cover it all, being that it was wine #464 on their list (someone out there can do the searching on that one)!! :)

We did utilize the laundry service yesterday around noon for a few items, and were surprised to see it returned before 6 PM the same day!

We have ordered room service a couple of times and had fast service (15 minutes) each time.

The bed does not seem as comfortable as we have experience in times past - and Carnival's beds have usually been our favorite among cruise lines. Perhaps these are getting near the end of their service life.

OK -- time to get the rest of the day going... bound to have a brilliant time! :D

Tom

Glad to hear you're having a great time! We liked the Liberty and especially Guy's burgers....will be interested to hear your take on them.

Did they ever get back to you with an alternative "captain experience"?

Thanks for the report, Tom!

I thought the same thing about the beds in January. I never thought the beds were the as comfortable as most people did, but these were rock hard. There was a thread here a few months ago about the change in mattresses. Hoping it's not a trend as my back didn't like that mattress at all on the Liberty. Guess I'll find out next week when I hit the Pride. :D

Karl is the best CD out there, imho. I'm not one of those people who hangs on who or what the CD of a ship does, but Karl was the one who made me realize how a great one can enhance a cruise. We've had the pleasure of sailing with him three times now and he really loves his job and enjoys interacting with the guests.

Guy's Burger... VERDICT:

Probably the best burger I have had on a ship -- a nice change. The entire area of Lido deck there has been updated (walls, seating, etc), and looks much better than "stock" Carnival Lido deck areas!

Have yet to try the new draft beer.

Not leaving Cozumel on time.. (should have been 10 minutes ago)... Guest Relations keeps calling "Raj".

I'm not a burger person when I'm on the ships but I got so hooked on Guy's burgers that I managed to have one every day on our cruise :D

A word of warning if you are talk about the Thirsty Frog beer.

I had it on the Magic and it was wonderful (and I am very picky about my beer).

Had it on the Spirit and it was good IF I got it from a bar that was inside. It was more bitter, if I got it from a bar that was outside .

Had it on the Elation and it was just bitter both times I had one....

I do not know if this product is not "traveling" well or what....

so if you are talking about the Thirsty Frog...make sure you get it from a bar that is indoors.... although that is no guarantee....

This was just delivered to our cabin...

Cheryl then asked what day the 7th of July is... we checked our calendar and it is this Saturday. There is only one problem with that, this cruise is OVER on Saturday morning!!

I called Guest Relations and brought this to their attention. I asked if this meant that they were treating us to another week onboard (met only with a chuckle, LOL)! They did get right back to me and indicated that it was supposed to be the last sea day. So, looks like we'll have a little afternoon tea/coffee (hope the BJ tournament finals don't coincide)! :D

The invites are cute.

I doubt I'll actually be hanging that up outside my door though lol

I agree....the door hanging thing is kind of funny! I can't imagine hanging it from my door!

Tom - I am looking forward to hearing what you think of the party. I have not gone a few times because it was just so crowded! I loved the PGP's when they held them in the smaller lounge before dinner and there was music and dancing and people were able to chat. It was more like a party then! When they had to put in the "big" theatre it was much more....."have a seat and stay where you are" atmosphere.

Hope you guys are having a blast celebrating all your 50's :)

I thought the idea behind the new past guest party was to make it more exclusive and more like party. Really, a door hanger? And only 45 minutes? I thought they used to be an hour.

Happy Happy Birthday, Tom!!!!

. . . and my best wishes (as always) to the pretty lady too! :) :)

.

Cheryl says HI DON!!

> Breakfast... CHECK -- the only time we've been up early enough for it!

> Roatan > Cabana ... NEXT! :) (since we leave at 3PM today, we had to get an earlier start!)
