Rare maxandmolly Posted July 8, 2012 #152 Share Posted July 8, 2012 He has his own retreat. He's from Lakeland:D Watch it now! Don't paint us all with the same brush. At least I can say I didn't grow up in this backwater redneck...town.

I didn't grow up here either, but it definately has rednecks:o I did however grow up with canoes (Old Town ones) and picnic baskets and all the germs that go with living in the sticks:D
kyrisong1 Posted July 9, 2012 #154 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Well at least that is a mystery shrouded behind closed doors. Far to many out in the open horror stories posted here by members. Perhaps Not knowing is better as far as eating goes. Bon appetite you know legion maybe you need to have a nice drink and take a long soak in that crock pot of stewing infections known as the hot tub :p;) JK, Carole
LuckyZ Posted July 9, 2012 #155 Share Posted July 9, 2012 I disagree with the premise of this thread. I don't go on vacation to sit in a restaurant, and wait for my ordered food (except dinner). I much prefer to be outside enjoying myself on the Lido deck, and have no problem with the buffet food. It's alot faster and food is good
legion3 Posted July 9, 2012 #156 Share Posted July 9, 2012 So now its cool to insult ones home town? Like all people who can't absolutely win the day in an argument you then resort to personal attacks and insults. Lakeland is a great city. And we even have cheap buffets that may be:)k to your liking. :)

cruiseonthebrain Posted July 9, 2012 #158 Share Posted July 9, 2012 How do you people survive in public, at work, on vacation worrying about germs? Each individual is a walking germ filled entity. Just use your common sense on cleanliness. Isn't "you people a little harsh"? Ouch.
Philly Steve Posted July 9, 2012 #159 Share Posted July 9, 2012 I prefer only dinner in the MDR. We've met some great folks during breakfast and lunch in the MDR but we have also met some truly miserable cruisers who prompted us to eat and run. The buffet offers so many options, including self seating (with spectacular views) and your choice of dining companions. :) And, if you're watching calories, you have more portion control without the guilt of leaving plated food behind in the MDR. crustysam Posted July 9, 2012 #160 Share Posted July 9, 2012 The MDR is far more enclosed than a buffet. The doors are always opening and closing in the buffet area. The remarks by a certain few on here are sooo far fetched in their reasoning for no buffet. I guess we'd better not speak to each other except from a distance, don't shake any hands, don't hold a door, not sit down, no hugs, and NO kissing, just look at jewelry and buy it size unknown, no watching stage shows in those non disinfected seats, no touching customer service desk making any transactions, Come on people, get a grip:o Do you use the yellow police tape to mark off your territory? I didn't grow up here either, but it definately has rednecks:o:D Wow- not finding the humor in this- just mean. I don't necessarily like buffets just like the OP. But I would rather drink the pool water and eat off the buffet floor than share a cruise with someone so judgmental. If you don't like buffets, try the MDR and room service. If you do like buffets- eat at them. Why the nastiness?

legion3 Posted July 9, 2012 #162 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Can't take the heat? Or no sense of humor? Both ;) Actually as a born and raised multi generational Floridian I can definitely take the heat. But no jokes about my hometown will approved for and comedy routines. The mdr...learn it, love it, live it! No shirts no shoes no service!

In all the years I've lived in your hometown, most of the "comedy" I've heard is racist jokes I had no idea people still told in public while the good ol' boys club runs the show and the sheriff tries to get on tv as much as possible. I'm native Floridian too, just not from here, but do me a favor and don't give us all a black eye, ok?

Sorry you don't like lakeland, it certainly is not as nice as it used to be before lots of out of towners moved in. ;) Since I did not partake in any racist comments or comedy shows it seems unlikely I could give anyone a blackeye. Especially a fellow Floridian. I agree with you about the sheriff what a cam w----

near the beach Posted July 9, 2012 #166 Share Posted July 9, 2012 I don’t care for buffets either. But sometimes that’s where the food is. We prefer the main dining room because it is faster than the buffet. We don’t have to find a table to sit at. There is one always available. We don’t have to carry our food around and make a second trip to get drinks. A waiter brings us our food and drinks. We usually get made to order omelets in the main dining room for breakfast. We do order room service every day. Sometime use the deli and pizza stations.
meanjean80 Posted July 9, 2012 #167 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Isn't it wonderful that cruise ships offer us so many alternatives? For me, I'm not a buffet fan, on land or sea. Germs are a very small (if non-existant) part of that...anyone who doesn't think there is more risk of germs in a buffet vs. the MDR is being very disingenous. That said, for the average, non-imuno compromised person, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that you will get sick from the buffet. However, my (at sea) cruise day usually works this way: Early riser, do the mile walk on the track, eat breakfast (preferably in the MDR; if not, omlet station does fine). Then I grab my kindle, find a lounge chair, and bask in the sun. But I'm very fair skinned. At about 1pm, I'm done. At which point, I like the MDR for lunch because 1-I get waited on (have not found outrageous wait times there for service), 2-it's inside, and I've been sunned out; 3-It's a nice bit of quiet. Afternoon would probably find me between the casino and my balcony. Dinner in the MDR and then the evening shows and/or piano bar. I just prefer to be waited on, and find the MDR to be a nice bit of respite in my day. YMMV.
