PSCruiser Posted July 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2012 Sapphire Beach is the beach that belongs to the resort of the same name. If you ask the driver, I would assume he would stop for pictures. Since its just like arriving/departing at a resort, there are taxis there all the time, or they will call one for you. Restrooms - last time we were there, just adequate, not nice, wet floors etc. Loungers - plenty of loungers, $10 each. Don't remember umbrellas as there are lots of shade trees. Watersports shack - rents and sells snorkel gear, etc. Also sells cans of beer, soda, chips, and I think cocktails, at OK prices. Food - they have waitress service to the lounge chairs, though a bit pricey. All in all, our favorite swimming/snorkelling beach on St. Thomas
Lsimon Posted July 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2012 The taxi question might be a bit tricky. All of the taxi's in St. Thomas are priced per person at fixed rates based on the destination. The normal route from the port to Sapphire beach, which is near Red Hook, does not go by any of the high elevation, "moutain top", lookout sites. Also, all the taxis are shared taxis. The driver will take all the passengers his cab can hold going from your loading point to your destination or other destinations along the way or relatively near your destination. This is standard procedure in St. Thomas. If you want to be sure to go to a high elevation point you'll need to ask the driver ahead of time. Depending on whether or not there are other passengers they should be able to do this for you before or after the rest of the passengers are dropped off and they might want a additional "touring" fee for this.
