Who cares where you are from and what they would never do there!

Well thanks Bob & Mary (not sure who wrote the post). The funny thing is I actually enjoy watching this behavior, it's that ticket to the freakshow I guess. The best is especially when they reference their 1 horse town 3 hours drive from some minor somewhere & expect you to know where that is & how it bears on the conversation.

Some of the worst offenders are ex NYers. Every time I hear,"Well I am from Brooklyn, so..." my skin crawls. What does that mean? You are a mobster or a badass street thug? You are wearing bermuda shorts and crocs, plus you are like 70...

Do you not see what's wrong with your post?

It made me snort bc I could've written the same thing (minus NASCAR) about what I hear. Our nemesis isn't OZ, it's redneck/racist TV shows. I've learned to throw people off by just smiling and agreeing with them when they try to be funny about it. Screw 'em. I get tired of trying to tell people I don't live in the 50's TV shows they've seen.

Come on down to live in florida, we get that all the time from the new arrivals when they tell us how much better they do it in __________ (Ohio and Michigan people are the biggest offenders).

After a few years they stop being that way and then get to make fun of the newer people saying it.... and the cycle goes on and on.

LOL how true this is!!! I just laugh or say well if it was so much better

Why not go back...LOL And I never said that when I moved down here 12 years aqgo from Michigan..Couldn't wait to leave the midwest. My mom used to call me her changling child. Alway just felt home as soon as we crossed the MD line..

Really? Just citing another example of my original post, I'm from------ and that means ------. This one just happens to be in my back yard with the Brooklynite. Inserting a little flavor about being old and with crocs, adds to the comedy.

I love when I hear someone say,"Well, I'm from_______ and you would never see _______ there". Insert wherever you want in the first line and whatever bugs them in the second. Man, live and let live. Here's a little secret, everyone thinks where they are from and how they grew up is the right way, best way, etc. What I can't wrap my head around is the need to share your dissatisfaction with the unfortunate souls who wandered in earshot. You aren't in Kansas anymore Toto, when you are born you are given a ticket to the freakshow... why not enjoy today's performance with a smile? Unless someone is actually violating your safety, personal space, or directly engaging you in a confrontational or distasteful manner who gives a crap? We are all on vacation together and if you don't like the general public I suggest a more upscale vacation.

Uhhhhh....right.

Well I'm from Indiana and they sure don't know how to make grits here.

Which is strange because this is the land of Corn.

.

Amen on that! My family lives if Fishers and I just moved there. Having grown up in the south, I guess I'm gonna have to spread the southern gospel of real fried chicken, grits and biscuits & gravy!:D

Now Kansas people I do have to add a story: ( now remembering I am a MAIN(E)AC) ;) i was sitting yacking with frieds in our local restaurant: An older couple came in with a map in hand ; Ordered lunch and still looking at their road map looked rather bewildered: One of the girls looked up and said , 'You appear to be searching for something. Anything we can help you with?" The reply ; We are doing some genealogy research: We spent last night in Bangor and hope to find our ancestor Dr. ? Snow: The girl looked over at me and laughed: i don't know anything about geneaogy but this lady might be able to help you. " Which Snow's I have them in my genealogy line: I asked: To make this story much shorter; I found the couple a place to put up for the next couple of days at a bed and breakfast: I spent most of the two days traveling with them for well over 3 hundred miles: The people they were looking for were found in the cemetary two towns over: And yes they were from Grant county in Kansas: Two of the nicest people I have ever run across in all my travels: (He was a County Commisioner ) Had we not been a bit nosey and asked if we could help, this couple might not have found what they came to locate: I might never have spent such a nice two days.... with such wonderful people who lived way out in Kansas:) PS We still exchange Christmas cards...

Well.. I was born in Philly but spent over 65 years in Maine: AND People in Eastern Maine sure do know what fried green tomatoes are: ;)

I was also born in Philly, but live in Maine. (13 years)

I won't be spending long here though...need to stalk my kids that live further south. :D

I like getting to try out all these locations. People ARE very different everywhere, but that's what makes it all SO interesting and awesome.

Yeah originally from Philly. Now living in Florida. Met you and your wife the bar by the casino.

Make sure you tell Steve I said Hello! I see you guys are going on the Sensation again, I loved that ship. Had a really great cruise and hanging with you guys was fun. Michele and I are going on the Liberty in September, can't wait to see the 2.0 upgrades. Took a page out of your playbook and bought a bunch of drink tickets for this one... Bon Voyage!

A combination of personal experiences on board and the "Avoid Carnival & Miami" thread. I marvel at people dropping where they are from assuming that we are all supposed to know what that means? I just think folks have to get over themselves and stop judging.

AMEN AMEN! Funny you should post this because I was thinking the same thing when I read the Miami post. It takes all types, folks! ALL TYPES!

my most favorite phrase is (land resorts and cruises)

regarding food...

oh they don't make it that way at home,,, well hello Dorthy you are not home, and if you are trying to feed 3000 people from all over the world you are not going to please them all.

...well how come thier meat does not taste like ours,,,, or crabbing about how strong the coffee or what ever.

how come i can not get a double cheese burger and where is the closest Macdonalds...

gessh people you are on vacation and choose to go to another country, they may not speak english, thier food is what they eat every day, thier culture is different . my favorite.... the rules of the road are way different than ours.. some counties the stop lights are decorations or only red and green , horns are used as turn signals, 6 on a morotrcycle with a goat and a dog really is not unusual for them... You are a guest in thier country no right to critise what or how they do things.

Right on point! I agree completely!
