Going on a 5 night Paradise cruise on 8/6. I am taking my daughter who is 18, and her friend who is 17. Both just graduated from HS, and are heading off to college and this is a last hurrah! Am I going to have conflicts with one not being able to be in the club, and one not being able to go to late night shows?

We were on the Pride last April and my son and his new friends went to one of the late shows and were asked to leave....they did have on shorts and t's so they looked young. The next night they were all dressed up for formal night and they went to the late show and they were not given a second look and stayed for the show. If they are together or with you I don't think they will say anything.

As for the club...my son is 17 and he said there were some other kids that were 18 but they were still in high school and had school ID's and were allowed to sigh up for the 02 club. Since your daughter is 18 and out of school I don't know if they will let her join.

I'm traveling in 3 days with the DS (17) and his DF (18). Thank goodness the friend is still in high school. I made sure to tell his mom for him to bring his school ID so that he will be able to join the DS in the teen club. I would have the 18 yr.-old bring her school ID. Because it will probably state on it that it is for the year 2011-2012, that should get her in the teen club with the 17 year old. My DS and some of his new friends got caught trying to get into the adult disco and the adult comedy show on our last cruise. They were not allowed to enter either one. I think when it's adult time in the disco they have a "bouncer" at the door checking IDs. It is an awkward age to be 18...some things are legal and some just aren't. My DS's friend who just turned 18 was told by his mom that he could drink if it was legal. Thank goodness you have to be 21 on the ship to drink but it may be an issue in the Bahamas where the drinking age I believe is 18. So, he asked me today if I would be offended if he had a beer in each port where he is legal. I told him that his mother said he could so I won't be offended but I will kick your #$# if you even think about getting booze for my DS or any other under-age new friend you make. Not that I will let them too far out of my sight when we are in port. Tomorrow I'm going to ask him, "How would you feel if my DS was 18 and you were 17?" Would you think it was nice for him to drink in front of you knowing that you couldn't drink also?" I'm interested to hear what he will say.;) Either way, I'm going to tell him that if he's drinking to enjoy it, fine. But if he's drinking to get drunk, no way! Getting drunk or tipsy is not allowed!

thanks for the replies.. one other question... how will the 18 year old's sign and sail card look different than the 17 year old's sign and sail card?

As far as I know there isn't any difference. But it's not the sign and sail card the kid and teen clubs go by. You have to fill out a form for each child and sign off in order to let them attend the clubs and Carnival can verify the info with the information you had to give them regarding their ages before you even got on the ship.

Have the 18yo bring the school ID. It will be up to the Club Counselors if they are accepting 18yo HS students.

Many times the kids form groups in the Club then wander the ship in a pack.

They will check ID for the disco.

I have never seen ID checks for the late night comedy. Only seen a few kicked out--they were seated directly in front, acting obnoxiously and asked to leave. If they sit off to the side and aren't obnoxious, they should be OK. Our under-18 have never been kicked out when they were with us. The comics we saw didn't have 'adult jokes' Just regular jokes with word bombs. I think they heard less bad words than if they were in school.

The 18yo can gamble in the casino, the 17yo cannot.

There is no color S&S card specific to age, only Past Guest status.
