**San Juan Questions..where did you stay and when did you book airfare?**

Recommended Posts

Hotel prices in San Juan are terrible. We've stayed at the Wyndham Condado the last 2 times we were there. On 1/30/05 we paid $164 a night (before taxes) and for 1/29/06 the same room is $260 a night before taxes. And yes, we are Wyndham by Request members but can get a better rate using AARP. I'm hoping they come down sometime in the near future. If I wasn't such a chicken I'd try Priceline.

Don't know what ship your on but we are doing the Empress in April and when I booked in December Royal Caribean had a deal on the air which usually run in the 700 range out of Texas and we booked cruise air for 399 which I would guess if I really tried could maybe save 50-75 if I was lucky but grabbed it. Waiting for them to post pre cruise hotel as we want to fly a day ahead. Looking at the prices you all show I'm guessing we may just go ahead and do one night pre cruise with the cruise line also but will wait and see what they come up with.

Kim, I just checked www.sidestep.com for flights and there are some for around $300 from DC. Hope this helps.

Michelle

It won't let me book because the return flight is more than 330 days out. I cannot book until the 20th. Were you able to book?

Only 329 more days for both of us :D

Kim - No, I wasn't, but I was looking at the cost for the week before. We are just one week out from booking our return flights. :D I guess I should have mentioned that. :o

We are using FF miles and plan on going out of RIC. I have to wait a few more days before I can do that, too, due to them not releasing the FF seats for the return flight yet. If we weren't using the FF miles, I'd sure be heading to DC to catch a flight. Would save about $400 total just for the 2 of us. Our friends are looking at doing that for their air travel for the cruise.

I have these waves of excitement about the cruise until I see how many days away it is! :( Oh, well. That many more days to get overloaded on the choice of things to do at all of those ports! I think I have my mind set, and wham..... somebody posts something about another great excursion!

Take care.

Michelle

We just cruised from San Juan at the end of April and stayed at the Best Western San Juan airport. We got in late in the evening and just went to the ship the next morning. It was perfect, free internet, free breakfast, plasma TV in the room, and it was cheap for San Juan standards. It was totally renovated last year when Best Western bought the place. Only downside was the room was on the small side, but we didn't care since it was just an overnight.

We booked July for May and paid 296 RT from Newark to SJU

We aren't sailing until Aug of 2006, but did some pricing for this August to get an idea. American Airlines wants $340 to fly form Philly to San Juan. It's cheaper by booking directly with them rather than using Expedia or Travelocity.

Anyone ever use Priceline to book through to San Juan? If so what how did you make out? Also planning on going the night before and was considering using Priceline for the hotel too. How did you folks make out using Priciline or any other service. I did well with Pricleine when I stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental in downtown Miami. Only paid $70 for a couple.

Thanks for being willing to share your prices with me and the rest of us.

I booked last October for this August, Jetblue - JFK to SJU - $310.40 each. There are four of us going so I didn't think that $1,241.60 was a bad price.

where does Jet Blue fly out of? Hope Newark. They don't fly out of here in Philly. Have Air Trans, A300 I bleive is the name and Southwest. I know South west doesn't fly to San Juan, but they do fly to Florida.

We booked a flight for San Juan out of Philly for Oct, the best price we could find was through Priceline but we did NOT bid we took the price they gave us. It is costing us 335.00/person, we tried booking direct with the airlines that we are flying down on and it was about $20 more per person. We were considering bidding with Priceline for a hotel for a precruise one night stay but were a little hesitant because we want to know where we are staying in San Juan. We booked the Marriott for $144/night, apparently this is a good rate for this hotel/casino.

I'm booked at the Intercontinental for the low low price of $259 USD for the night....

I've been reading Trip Advisor and there are several hotels that have gotten less than favourable reviews. I think $259 is outrageously expensive, but I'm not willing to take a chance on a hotel for a few dollars less that I'm not 100% sure about.

If anyone knows of a better rate at a good hotel.....I'm all ears

Sorry......I was wrong on the savings, I just looked it up again, we save $40/person booking through priceline for the airfare rather then booking direct with the airlines.

As of now Priceline sounds like the way to go. Most likely for the hotel room too.

Before you commit to Priceline, please read this from another site:

Priceline only guarantees a queen sized bed- if you're travelling with a third or fourth person, you may be out of luck. Hotwire has a box to check for how many people will be in the room - so there should be no problems. With Hotwire you can get a good guess what hotel you're bidding on by using the guidelines on www.betterbidding.com The is a list of hotels and ratings used by hotwire and the list of amenities, which allows you to get a good idea before you purchase. In some places ( like San Juan) I would rather know beforehand what I'm getting- yes it does cost a little more, but sometimes it's worth not it to gamble

There have also been a few posts in which people were told there were no rooms and they tried to send them to seedy hotels. I'll look for the posts. This was just for hotels in San Juan.
