govgurl Posted August 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Hello Cruisers! My friends and I will be travelling from DC to Baltimore this fall for our cruise, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a cost-effective way to do that? I think we'll have too much cruise luggage to easily take the train, and with three of us splitting, I thought we might be able to more easily get a car service or cruise shuttle to the dock. Has anyone done this before and are there any car services/buses you would recommend that are both inexpensive and reliable?
grvdggr71 Posted August 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2012 If I can enquire, where in DC will you be departing from? There is a pretty good distance (and traffic) difference between leaving from Washington-Dulles Airport (in Virginia) to leaving from, say, Union Station. Where you are starting your journey in DC may affect the suggestions you are given.
govgurl Posted August 2, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 2, 2012 Yes, you make a good point, I probably should have been more clear. I'll be leaving from my home in Washington itself, near Capitol Hill. So not Virgina, Maryland, or any of the airports. We would drive ourselves, but neither me nor any of my friends have cars of our own (one of the benefits/curses of living in a town with great public transportation). We could go to the bus terminal at Union Station though, if there's a regular bus from there to the cruise terminal, but I don't think there is... read52 Posted August 2, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2012 Do you have a friend that could drop you off? It is about 45 minutes from your place. There is a couple of shuttle services that you could take, I think one is called Super Shuttle.
MonDreamr1 Posted August 2, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2012 You can take the train either Marc or Amtrak to the BWI station. Taxi from BWi to the port guess would be around $30. Or try one of the shuttles/private car https://m.supershuttle.com/default.aspx http://www.marylandshuttle.com/index.html ExecuCar https://m.execucar.com/default.aspx point to point vs to airport. http://www.theairportshuttle.com/cruise.html http://www.vanandlimo.com/reservations/fare.html

Baltimore Penn Station is MUCH closer to the port than BWI; a cab will be cheaper...Also, you can utilize a Red Cap porter to handle your luggage at both Union and Penn Stations.
