We are on the Sept.21st sailing out of Rome. The ports are Genoa, Barcelona, LaGoulette, Valletta and Messina. Does anyone know if we should get a tour from the cruise line for all poets or are some ports best seen on our own. Thank you for any help

Genoa, Barcelona and Valetta are very easy tom do on your own. It's a pretty steep walk up to the old town in Valetta but still doable and you get great views of the harbour on the way up. There is a tourist info stand nrar where the ship docks that will give you a free map.

Havent been to Messina and AI purposely stay on the ship in La Goulette as I just don't fancy it.

If you got yo the Ports of Call Section for Europe, you'll find loads of threads on all of these ports to help you decide if exploring on these ports is right for you. A lot of it comes down to how comfortable you are going off on your own in these countries and the type of experience you want. Some really enjoy having a guide explain things tonthem and directing where they go and what they see and others don't.
