KimtheCruiser Posted August 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I saw the thread on a scavenger hunt for kids but didn't post this there, because it probably would not work as well, especially for younger kids. DH and I lead a group cruise every year for medical coders - I teach some classes on the sea days for them to get their continuing education units, but we also try to make it fun as well. We do a scavenger hunt the first day, right after sailaway and before dinner. My specific questions would not work for most groups, but the idea would. The goal is to get them to look at the deck plan online beforehand - not everyone studies it like I do, but I think it helps to be familiar with the layout of the ship ahead of time. Many times we've seen newbie cruisers who were just learning their way around the ship on the last day. And in order for them to get a CEU for the hunt, I make the clues all medical codes - I send a list of 10 scenarios - codes only, and they have to look up the code and find where on the ship that could occur. If I have enough helpers, I have one of them stationed at the location to sign off on the hunt - otherwise, I note the # of the nearest fire control station. (How do I manage that? DH and I always cruise that particular ship by ourselves once before we take the group. It's a sacrifice, but we are willing to make it for the good of the group ;)) An example of my questions: 97124 (massage) - the spa back strain while dancing - the disco gambling addiction - casino eye strain from reading - library any medication code - infirmary sunburn while swimming - lido deck pool fall from playground equipment - Camp Carnival overeating - buffet I am always stationed at the Lido Deck midship pool - and the first person to make it back to me after visiting all 10 locations wins $50 OBC. The winner is always someone who has studied the deck plan beforehand and figured out a strategy - for example, question 1 and question 8 may be near each other, so visit those together rather than in strict numerical order. Just an idea - I think it could be adapted to just about any group.
lady_cruiser Posted August 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2012 Great ideas for adults. This should get your group thinking. I just hope one of your group comes here and gets the answers ahead of time :p
