Richard & Philip Posted August 9, 2012 #27 Share Posted August 9, 2012 January 2011 we did the Triumph out of NOLA. Boat had propulsion issues and we didn't leave NOLA until about 11pm.....when I awoke in the morning we were just entering the gulf.....but I did get to see it on the way back. Cool to see all the little villages and people on the banks.
bar10der421 Posted August 9, 2012 #28 Share Posted August 9, 2012 On all 4 of our cruises out of NOLA the casino was open when dinner (early seating) was over. I leave the dining room and head straight to the roulette wheel! Just like cruises out of Baltimore, the casino is open way before you get out of the Chesapeake Bay. There is no way the cruise lines would sail from those ports if it was otherwise---too much revenue lost!
blondietink Posted August 9, 2012 #29 Share Posted August 9, 2012 When we cruised from NOLA in February 2011, we didn't leave until 6 pm, so all we saw was the city lit up for night. After that it was very dark the whole way, but it was neat looking out at the few houses along the river lit up. It was also foggy, so it was neat. On the way back, I woke up and could tell we were entering the river, as there was quite a bit of motion to the ship at that time (currents). It did not smell at all. RWolver672 Posted August 9, 2012 #31 Share Posted August 9, 2012 It is also cool to pass a barge going in the opposite direction. Keith When we were on her when she was originally in NOLA in 2003, we met a freighter on the way out. The freighter pulled off to the side to let us get through. That was interesting to see. It was already dark when we started pulling out of port. http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1064463484030186251opcKix Coming back in, we could see a thunder storm brewing towards NOLA. It got extremely foggy and there was a terriffic lightning show. We watched it for quite a while, then I went to bed. The next morning the rest of the family said that when making a turn on the river, the ship listed to the point that DS said he almost fell out of bed. Other DS said that he was still up and there was dishes crashing all over the buffet.

CimW Posted August 10, 2012 #33 Share Posted August 10, 2012 We are sailing out of NOL soon, fun to read the stories. I still cannot believe it takes 7/8 hours to cruise out of the river! Can I hijack for a moment since we are on the NOL subject and river? How long can you use your cell phone on the river before the roaming rates start?
