First Nite Dinner: how casual??

Cruising Mariner 5/22/5.How casual is the dinner on Sunday Nite.Will shorts be OK since luggage will probably be late?

From what I could tell on my cruise, they didn't have a problem if you wore shorts but long pants were preffered. Either way, our baggage got there on time, and we had outfits in the carry-ons just in case.

Ghoterman. Why do you expect your luggage to be late? Are you boarding the very last minute? In 18 cruises, only once did my luggage get delivered later than 4PM. Carry a pr of slacks and polo in your carryon. Most people do.

We boarded early, befoe noon and our suitcase didn't come untill 10:30. So we sent to dinner in our shorts and there was no problem. There were others in the same situation. This does happen and it is not unusual.

We dress for the plane ride in what were going to wear for dinner and carry our shorts/T-shirts in our carry on. Works great for us!

PS: Don't pack your luggage so all you get the first night is a suitcase full of shoes, hehe. We learned the hard way on the Voayger.

You can check the Compass when you get to your cabin. It should already be there and let you know exactly what is expected in the way of dining room attire for the first night. Some ships will allow shorts/jeans the first night, some won't. The easy way to make sure there will not be a problem is to either board in something that will not be questioned or pack something in your carryon. :)
