Miracle Review 8/3 - 8/10

Hello to all you fellow cruisers! Just got off the Miracle and I must say I had a blast. A little info about myself. I am 43 years old and I travelled with my 45 year old husband, 3 kids ages 20, 19 and 16 and their friends 21, 22, 21 and 19. I also had my mother in law who is 65. As a group, this was our 13th cruise. We always cruise out of NY but the last time we sailed on Carnival was 10 years ago on the Legend. I liked the 9 day cruise so that was why we never did Carnival. However, Princess pulled out of NY and I am not a huge fan of Royal Caribbean so we decided to try Carnival. I am so glad we did. This boat is now my favorite.

CABINS - We were in a balcony cabin 7224 mid-ship. This cabin was in a great location. 2 flights up and you were at the pool and the restaurant. Great in terms of getting to everything easy. There is plenty of closet space (3 nice big closets 2 had rods and the 3rd was shelves.) I found myself not using half the drawers. The only complaint I had was vibration. All the people in my group had the same complaint that when you laid in bed at night, the bed vibrated. Not a rocking motion but a vibration. I'm thinking stabilizers? But the water was so calm. It only occurred the first few nights and then it stopped. Whatever it was, it was annoying. Anyway, we had 3 cabin all in a row so on the first day we asked them to open the dividers. It was done by evening and was really nice to have an elongated balcony. Our room steward, "Sherwin Williams", like the paint company lol, was the best steward I ever had. He had the room so clean every day, always had fresh towels and did towel animals every night. I can't wait for Carnival to e-mail asking for comments because he is getting rave reviews from me. I have had some stewards who stunk so I know a good one when I get one and he was great!!

FOOD - This is an interesting one for me. I suffer from Celiac's disease so I am gluten free. I was so scared to take this cruise for fear of what to eat. Normally at home, I am dairy and egg free as well (by choice) but I did have an egg for breakfast a few mornings and breakfast was challenging. Anyway, every night at dinner a woman would show me the menu for the next day and ask what I wanted. They would cook all my food gluten and dairy free. They even made gluten free bread for me each night. Breakfast, if I wanted to eat in the dining room, they offered me gluten free pancakes, french toast and bread for my eggs. This is another area where Carnival does better than the other two lines. They have the dining room open to 1pm. They call it a brunch. Me being a late sleeper, this is a great thing. Lunch was a little harder but I just from the deli buffet each day and either had fresh turkey with cole slaw or tuna. I also had grilled chicken, which is offered by the pool. Overall, my dining experience was very positive, even being on a strict diet.

ENTERTAINMENT - I was pleased with the shows at night. We had early seating so we would hit the casino a little then see a comedian then go to the club. I love the design of the club on this boat. The dance floor is down a spiral stair case and the bar is up stairs. It was always crowded, which was good as it showed everyone having a good time. One night we were in the club and the "crew" came in. It was about 1:30. There was about 20 of them. They started dancing with fellow passengers and took up a good 25% of the dance floor. This really turned me off as I have never seen that on all my cruises. I was under the understanding that they have their own night club. Not sure why this occurred. I heard that a few passengers went to complain as one guy said the crew member was trying to dance with his wife.

SECURITY - This is always something I look at because I have been traveling with teens for a few years now. They were strict but not over the top. They seemed to keep good control without taking a power trip. They were very nice about it as well. At the night club they were strict about you holding a drink on the dance floor, if you forgot and started to dance, they would come right up to you ask you to put the drink down. However, they were very nice about it and kept good control. Again, very pleased in this area.

PORTS OF CALL - I have done this run about 10 times. At this point, I could stay 8 days on the boat. We didn't do much exciting except Senor Frogs in Puerto Rico and Margaritaville in Grand Turk. The kids always enjoy these spots.

DREADED CHAIR HOG - I must admit that it was not that bad this cruise. Don't get me wrong, you can't come out at 11 and expect a chair pool side. But get out early enough and there are chairs. One port day, I went over to the Serenity Deck to sit in one of those clam shell things. I could not believe it but there were people saving them and not there. Well, I waited a little and then went to get someone. There were 4 people on this deck and not a clam shell or hammock was available. I went to get a deck hand to do something about it and this woman that was reading her book on the hammock had also saved herself a clam shell and 3 loungers. After a little arguing with the deck hand, she gave up her hammock.

This was, by far, my best cruise yet. From getting on to getting off the ship I had very few complaints. 2 thumbs up for Carnival and I can't wait for the Splendor next year!!

We actually like the Spirit class ships much better, much better flow and much less crowded feel. The Splendor has so many crowded areas and dead-ends, but is OK because of the newness and friendly crew.
