MLA21 Posted August 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I'm deciding between taking the train from Toulon to either Cassis or Cannes. I'd like a fancy beach where we can rent a chair for a few hours. Does Cassis have the same fancy/glitzy beaches as Cannes? Is either place better on a Sunday? richfromhaw Posted August 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2012 Late May was on Thomson Dream with port stops in both Cannes & Toulon. From Toulon we took the train to Cassis and it was a beautiful port to visit & see. We took a boat ride into the calanques ( fjords like ), had an alfresco lunch on the water in town, just great. Only problem is the Cassis train station is 4 miles away from the water ( up in the mountains) so you need to either use a taxi back/forth from train station or a shuttle bus run by Cassis which we found not to be in service when we visited. Cannes is a much longer train ride from Toulon than Cassis though. Unless you use the public beach which is a walk from town ( & Gare station)expect to pay over 30 Euros each to access the private beach clubs in Cannes. Depending on where your boat berths in Toulon, also plan on a 30 minute walk ( maybe more) from the port to the Toulon Gare station. Whatever you do have fun and enjoy.
