needabreakcanada Posted August 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2012 We fly charter from Canada to Fort Lauderdale for our first cruise. I will try not to overpack. Our weight is 44lbs per checked bag and 11lbs per carry on. So this is the plan: Two checked bags (cross packed between his and mine in case of loss) Two roller carry ons (yes with medical/electronics and personal information) One backpack inside luggage (will explain further down) CPAP machine So in order to bring wine/drinks on board I am planning to empty one carry on into backpack, then put drinks in rolling carry on. For CPAP machine I am bringing a bungee cord- while putting the handle over the pull up handle on the roller bag helps - it does not prevent Cpap from flopping down on the other side of the bag. So the bungee should help prevent that movement. So picture us newbies - me with roller bag with CPAP strapped to it, and hubby with roller bag and backpack on his back. Coming to a lido deck near you- for lunch:p
Amy Giard Posted August 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2012 You'll be fine - just "camp out" until your room is ready. It will be cute.. like opening credits of "Yes Dear" :)
needabreakcanada Posted August 15, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 15, 2012 After doing alot of homework on CC for our first cruise its nice to have a plan. Nothing worse than scrambling and starting your vacation off in a panic!
cocontom Posted August 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2012 11 pounds is not a lot of weight for a roller bag- I think ours are 4-5 pounds just for the empty bags, and I'm pretty sure my 14x7x9 cooler of "emergency clothes" (Tom had the shoes and electronics in his backpack) weighed more than that. I would go with a roller and a duffel without wheels, and then once you get to the ship, check everything besides the electronics, CPAP, meds and drinks, and just roll the one bag around and maybe the backpack if you need it. mistycruiser Posted August 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2012 Just as an fyi... you might need an exstension cord for the CPAC machine because their aren't any electrical outlets by the bed. :)
