mkmom50 Posted August 20, 2012 #27 Share Posted August 20, 2012 On the 28th of april 2013 we will be one of the first consumers to sail the Norwegian Breakaway. Although it's only for one night we're looking forward to the experience of being the first one on a brand new ship. First of all I want excuse myself when it comes to mistakes in writing this down in English. I'm from Holland, so it isn't my first language. We will use this thread to keep you updated on the build of the Norwegian Breakaway. During our cruise we'll be updating live, so if you would like to see a picture of the pool area, post it here, we will be answering them all. Cruise: 28/4 Rotterdam 29/4 Southampton If you have specific questions, like eating at Ocean Blu, or pictures of the Owners suite, you can sponsor us ;) I will start with an overview of the facilities onboard the ship. Thank you for starting this thread. I am looking forward to seeing pictures since my husband, son and I will be on the Transatlantic 4/30/13. loungerz Posted August 20, 2012 Author #28 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Thanks for all the positive reactions. For all of you departing from Rotterdam, if you need any help in finding accomodation, tips for sight-seeing or (public-)transport, let me know. loungerz Posted August 20, 2012 Author #29 Share Posted August 20, 2012 The Haven is more or less copied from the Epic, although a bit more integrated in the ship-design. This time they didn't forget to put the Haven on top when designing the exterior.;) The Haven a large variety of cabins to choose from, all in the luxury segment. It will contain a Lounge, Restaurant and Beach Club dedicated to the Haven-guests. Only the Beach Club(Vibe) is also accesible for non-Haven-guests by purchasing an accesspass. The price has not yet been announced, but it won't be much more than de passes that are sold on the Epic($59/p/week). Vibe Beach Club: Courtyard: The Haven Restaurant: The Haven Lounge:
loungerz Posted August 20, 2012 Author #30 Share Posted August 20, 2012 On the Epic Norwegian succeeded in making a crowdy and vibrant nighlife atmosphere. The signature event White Hot Party was completed with other theme events, like Toga Party and 70's party. On the Breakaway there will be the samen locations for nightlife, starting with the Spice H2O by night, followed by the Bliss Ultra Lounge. Maybe on Epic these two will be accompanied by the Vibe Beach Club. Other places for a pleasant nightly stay will be the alltime Casino and the several bars throughout the ship. Afterwards definitely have a quick bite at O'Sheehan's. Spice by Night: Bliss Lounge: Casino: Maltings Beer and Whiskey Bar: Shakers: Mixx:

loungerz Posted August 20, 2012 Author #32 Share Posted August 20, 2012 A sharp eye from Mianmike in watching the webcam, which gives a very good impression on the speed of building Breakaway. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1692138 I will keep a close eye on the webcam and maybe visit the Shipyard in the upcoming time when they start finishing the outside. SallyStrawberry Posted August 20, 2012 #33 Share Posted August 20, 2012 My one request for your trip.... take pictures of everything!! I just talked to my wife about our "next cruise", and we're thinking a few days in NYC and a Breakaway cruise will be just the ticket. This is our plan too! It's our 30th anniversary in January 2014 and DH and I are booked on the 12 day Southern Caribbean cruise on the Breakaway leaving on January 5th. We'll be having a couple of days in NYC pre-cruise. I'm looking forward to a live TR and photos from the ship!

For all of you departing from Rotterdam, if you need any help in finding accomodation, tips for sight-seeing or (public-)transport, let me know. Thanks again for all the great pictures! I do have a qustion about accommodations in Rotterdam. I just booked the Cherrycake & Chocolate B&B at Maaskade 88b, Feijenoord, 3071 NE Rotterdam. http://www.booking.com/hotel/nl/cherrycake-chocolate.en-gb.html?sid=707f3a1b7d85fe4eb1442fe7cd5a2161;dcid=1;srfid=ee26a97b6493baf59a95e758c6fb50c3X7 Can you give me any idea if that is in a convenient location? We'll plan to come up on Saturday to look around the city for a bit, stay Saturday night, and board the ship as early as they will allow on Sunday. :)

crewser1 Posted August 23, 2012 #37 Share Posted August 23, 2012 I must say these photo's are pretty good for a ship that hasn't been built yet. Are these pictures actual photo's from another ship or is someone very good with photoshop and other picture enhancement technology?
OnTheGoMom921 Posted August 23, 2012 #38 Share Posted August 23, 2012 They are actually "artist renderings", but more like computer generated images, with the exception of the shipyard photos (which are actual photos) I, for one, can't wait to see the real pictures, and my real cabin...from the inside! Only a bit over 300 days left to go! ~Michele:D
SliceOfLife Posted August 23, 2012 #39 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Great thread! I look forward to your review of all the fun things to do on the ship. I'll be on the 4th sailing of the Breakaway! It's great having all the pics and info in one thread instead of hunting all around the NCL page. Thanks :)
kylenyc Posted August 24, 2012 #40 Share Posted August 24, 2012 Thanks loungerz for posting all the great pictures. I'll be there on 4/28. I can't wait to kick the tires. Will it have a "new ship smell?" Do you have any suggestions for "day trips" in the both Amsterdam and Rotterdam? I'm particularly interested in places where the "locals" go (local favorite eateries, street markets, ethnic enclaves, parks, etc.).

We'll plan to come up on Saturday to look around the city for a bit, stay Saturday night, and board the ship as early as they will allow on Sunday. :) Seems like a nice place to stay, with a nice view over the river Nieuwe Maas. From there you one of the landmarks of Rotterdam, the Erasmusbrug, which is also the entrance to the citycenter north of the river. The ship will dock right after the Erasmusbrug from that side. So you can walk from there to the ship, but also to the citycenter. If you take the bridge on the right side(Willemsbrug) you will find one of the best spots to have a drink in Rotterdam which is called De oude haven(The old harbour). Opposite the street you can also find the famous(at least in Holland) Cubehouses(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_house) Have a great stay in Rotterdam. We will also try to get on the ship as early as possible, so maybe see you there.

You'll take the Transatlantic afterwards I asume? We're expecting our second baby in oktober, so she won't be old enough to join us on the transatlantic(she had to be at least a year), maybe on the Getaway with the four of us. In Amsterdam there are so many places to go. Not to miss is the neighborhood De Pijp(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Pijp). Which is one of the favourite places to have dinner for the locals. Nice places are De groene vlinder or de Pilsvogel(http://www.pilsvogel.nl). Both are next to a all week market which is called the Albert Cuyp. The Pijp is full of restaurants so you can find whatever you lik. Most of the tourist will eat in the center(around the Dam). Not far from the Pijp is the Vondelpark(the Central Park from Amsterdam). In the summer the park is full of locals hanging around, skating, biking.. In april you must be lucky with the weather. A nice place to eat there is the Vertigo(http://www.vertigo.nl/index1.html). If you fancy more upscale restaurants you will find them around the Museumplein, next to the Rijksmuseum(which is renovated very well lately). In Rotterdam a nice place to have a drink is de Oude Haven(http://www.oudehaven.nl) like I mentioned above. Also have a quick look at the Cube Houses(see link above). Besides that a lovely place to visit is the Hotel New York, this was the office of the HAL. They have a nice fishrestaurant, but from there you can also take a watercab to several sights in the city(http://www.hotelnewyork.nl/). Not far from there you can find the old HAL ship the Rotterdam I. You can have a drink there, but is also nice to visit a 55 year old cruiseship. If you need more information let me know. Have a great stay in Holland.

hollon Posted August 24, 2012 #46 Share Posted August 24, 2012 I have a question, do you think "the haven" will be worth the extra money if we go to bermuda since we will be on land for days and only using it to sleep. I went on the allure of the seas and got a balcony, which was nice, but honestly, we were so busy around the ship we never used it???
hollon Posted August 24, 2012 #47 Share Posted August 24, 2012 sorry, don't mean "we didn't use our balcony", we just didn't use it very much for the price we paid.

I went on the allure of the seas and got a balcony, which was nice, but honestly, we were so busy around the ship we never used it??? Personally I would only have a suite in The Haven if I liked the quiet around the private pool, the luxury of a private restaurant and lounge. I like the buzz of the other restaurants and around the pool. Besides that if you like to be off the ship all day and go to the teppanyaki in the evening you won't use the perks of the Haven. On the other side if your sources are unlimited, why not. I would love the luxury, but my sources are not unlimited and would rather have an extra drink or excursion.
