Kids in cabin across from us

Hello! We are sailing in 77 days and have a few questions about our DSs who will be sailing with us and their cabin is right across the hall from ours.

1-just as on our prior cruises, we do not allow them S&S access-if they want something that is not included they have to have their father or I pay for it, but with them being in a seperate cabin, will they have to have an S&S account set up for them with a credit card being linked to them?

2-Our oldest will turn 16 on this cruise. We will have a cake delivered to the MDR at dinner on the night we embark. When I called Bon Voyage today, they put the cake under his name. But when we go to dinner that night, we will ask for a table for 4, the lady at Bon Voyage advised they will ask for our sons reservation # too and bring the cake out after our meal. Has anyone ever run into any problems with that?

3-Goes back to the S&S card-the boys and I will get the soda program-so will it be just like it was when we were in one cabin, I will take our 3 cards to the bar and have them put the stickers on it?

This is the first time they will be in their own cabin. I just want to make sure we do everything right.

Thanks in advance :)

We had our DDs in the next door cabin. When we did online check-in we used 1 creditcard for everyone in both of the cabins, but only gave charging rights to DH and I. (There is an option to do this on the screen). After embarkation I went to a bar with both DDs and put soda stickers on our 3 cards, using mine to pay. All 3 later appeared on my S&S account.

We also changed the room occupants to show who was actually in each cabin, as on booking we had to put 1 adult & 1 DD in each room. We also got a spare key to their room.

Sorry, can't help with the cake question.

Have a great cruise.

That sounds like a great plan and the cake will be really nice.

We just came back from a cruise to Alaska. Our 2 boys (16 and 23) and 2 girls (15 and 20) shared insides across from us. It was great, everyone had privacy.

I just want to say what we did. My DH and I decided on an amount that each could spend on their own per day mostly for games, some candy at speciality shop, and one virgin drink a day for the young ones. The two oldest had the same amount but had to pay us back if they spent more for casino.

They felt responsible and we didn't have to be there every minute.

They knew if they went over their budget (I checked on tv) then all money for the rest of the week was forfeited and all money had to be paid back. We were comfortable with 80.00 for the week, that also included any souvenirs bought off the ship.

This may not work for all but it really cut down on them asking for stuff.

For me, all kids need to have money to learn how to manage it. The 2 youngest only spent 60.00 so they got 20.00 each when we got home.

The two oldest: no dice!

Have a great cruise!

That's exactly what we do each and every cruise.

Not to highjack your thread but I am curious on this one as well. I am assuming that you are doing "Your Time" dining? I am sailing in October for my wife's 40th birthday and I almost bought a cake for her on the Bon Voyage but I guess I am a little curious on how we coordinate to have it brought out after dinner on our first night. We are doing "Your Time" dining so it's not like they can just deliver it to our table as we won't have an assigned table. Sounds like you have the same situation?

We did YTD on our 2010 cruise. They will ask what staterooms are being seated for dinner, so they will know to deliver the cake after dinner. If you want to adjust it, you might stop by the maitre D in the afternoon and let him/her know what night you'd like it.

Yes, we are YTD as well. I kept asking the lady in BV today, she said they would see by the reservation # that we will have a cake? She said at the end of the meal they will bring the cake out and sing to him, but I am very nervous this won't happen. I guess mainly, how will they know? I did say on the first night at dinner, so maybe? they will send it to the dining room? I don't know, but I am going to keep an open mind! When we were on the Dream last summer, I saw a few cakes brought out.

Thanks for the tips. Our PVP already booked the boys in their own cabin, we didn't have to book with one of us in there, which I have to admit shocks me as we had people on our cruise last year who have been in our boys' classes since K and they had a room right next door to their kids and she told me they had to switch out the names once on board, but we don't have to. Their oldest is the same age our son will be on this cruise, so I am not sure how that worked out, but it did.

We always tell our DS he has charging privileges but is to let us know at the end of they day how much he put on the card and to give us the receipts. He's never spent all that much money and always asks if he wants to charge something over $20 for a particular item. It's never been an issue for us. We've done this since he was 9 and he's 17 now. It depends on your child if you think they can be responsible with charging privileges or not.

Only twice in recent years has he been in a cabin across from us with a friend his age. You need to give them firm guidance about bringing people into the room without your permission, and stuff like that. Last year we gave them a curfew and they broke it! Consequences were paid when we got home. This year we tried something different and gave them no curfew...worked like a charm. They came back to their cabin earlier than they did when they had a curfew! Go figure!:D

Our 16 year old son stayed in the cabin next to us with my brother. We had to set him up on our credit card for his sail & sign card, but we chose to not give him charging access. It worked out fine. He never even asked for any money for anything. He had a blast though on the cruise =)

Your friends had a TA who didn't know the rules. No that uncommon unfortunately.

Sounds like you are on track with the kids S&S cards. As for the birthday cake, last year on the Liberty my wife ordered me one and instructed them that we would be eating in the Steakhouse on my birthday, right on cue after dinner they brought out a great cake, unbelievable really.

The funny part is the next night we ate in the MDR and right after dinner here they come with another birthday cake. My wife only paid for one and no way we could eat them both.

Yes, I have laid down the law to them. I told them they could not have anyone in their cabin at all and they are not allowed under no circumstances allowed to go to another cabin. The past two cruises they have been very good.

Cool-I know being 16 is too "kid" to get a cake, but his dad and I are super excited and think it will be fun!
