rh3 Posted August 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2012 We have sailed twice from Galveston. Even with the panoply of fees charged by airport rental franchises, which are the highest I've experienced anywhere in the country, we've always found it more economical to rent a car and use park n cruise for our transportation to the island pre and post cruise. Carnival transfers out because we arrive the day before sailing. Leaving on Triumph 12/31and will need a 6-day rental beginning 12/30. Prices, even with Priceline, are outrageous. Over $350 even with loyalty discounts and priceline rejection at up to 80% of published rates. So....any tips? Maybe too early to square this away but should I just grin and bear it to avoid even higher rates?
jonbgd Posted August 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Midsize car thru Thrifty $269. What I do is reserve the car and check back closer to rental date to see if any price drops. If not than I try booking 3rd party like Hotwire or Priceline.
rh3 Posted August 29, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks. Got on the phone and called around today. Dollar agreed to $25/day before taxes/fees. Locked in at $220 for a standard. Now we'll watch the prices.
