Alex Tours - Kauai

Just wondering if anyone booked/toured with Alex Tours on Kauai. There will be 11 of us visiting next May on the Rhapsody. Or is there another tour company you recommend? Interested in seeing the Canyon and Fern Grotto.

Thank you.

Thank you.

We took Alex's Waimea Canyon tour - which also included the coffee plantation, the blowhole and the waterfalls in August 2012. Cost $45, and an excellent tour for the money. Comfortable vehicle, excellent driver/guide. Actually met him at the previous port (Kona) where he was at the dockside promoting his tours ... his tour met all our expectations.

You can rent 2 vehicles and drive yourself. Kauai has very easy driving.

There is basically one road to the west and up the Waimea Canyon. You can stop at as many places, for as long as you like. Recommend to go in the morning, before the island heats up and moisture rise up. On the way back, you can stop by the coffee planatation. There is sign on the road. Then drive to Poipu Beach. Just before reaching there, there'll be sign to go to the Spouting Horn (blow hole) if you like to go there to see.

The Fern Grotto has to be reached by boat or kayak, up the Wailua River. We actually drove a little bit into Wailua, and rented kayaks at the bend of the river (Kamokila Village), to get to Fern Grotto. It wasn't big deal, as after the hurricane a few years ago, the area (Fern Grotto) is fenced off so you cannot walk up there, but only see from a little distance. Yes there's a cave and ferns growing upsidedown, but nothing special.

You can drive west to Waimea Canyon/Poipu Beach in the morning. Eat lunch at Poipu Beach. In the afternoon drive to Wailua Falls, and the Opekka? Falls and the Kamokila Village to Fern Grotto. Or you can pay to get on the Fern Grotto river cruise. After that can continue driving north to Ke'e Beach, and see Princeville, Hanalei Bay, view to the Taro Fields, on the way. That is, if you don't need to return too early.

Thank you for your replies. The group did not want to rent 2 vans as no one wanted to drive on their vacation . I had contacted Alex and he will t take us on a tour in the morning and to Poipu beach in the afternoon for swimming and snorkelling. Our ship leaves at 5:00 pm. We feel more comfortable hearing from some one who had taken tours with Alex and had a positive experience. Thank again for your help.
