Restaurants near Hilton Galveston

We're arriving 5:40 pm to Hobby and have a limo reserved for the drive to Galveston...staying at the Hilton before boarding the Mariner of the Seas (December 16 cruise)...4 of us (taking the daughters)...

 

I'm trying to figure out where to eat...since we'll be at the Hilton without a car, I was figuring "close walking distance"...

 

Not looking for anything expensive...I figure it may be a little late by the time we get in to Hobby, retrieve our luggage, get down to Galveston and check in to the hotel...and we'll probably be dressed in the same clothes we've traveled in (like I'm in cargo shorts and a T-shirt), so it needs to be very casual...

 

My first instinct is "Tortuga"...any good? Or are there other places nearby we should be considering?

The IHOP is right next door. there is also a strip shopping center next to IHOP that has some places. and if I recall, the Rainforest is close by as well

 

Personally, we like Gaidos, but that's not necessarily within walking distance (depending upon your definition)..

Slightly off topic, but do any locals have suggestions for quick tours? Trolley? I am interested in architecture and scandals!

The Galveston Historical Foundation has tours of the island as well as the Bishop's Palace, Texas Seaport Museum and bay tours on the Seagull II. Unfortunately our tall ship Elissa will still be in drydock.

 

Also look up Texas Ghost Tours for their evening walking tours.
