Okay here goes........is it true that they automatically tack on the tips to your S&S Card. What if you would rather give the tip personally to the people. Will they remove it from you Card? Must you pay for the tips with you Card?

How do you remove the tip from your Card?

Shannon:) :) :)

Shannon, you would need to go to the Pursors desk and have the tips removed from your card. Most people will do that on the first day, if they going to not have them on the S&S card.

Personally, we've found it easier to leave them on the card and then give any extra in cash when we get exceptional service.

But either way works.

Good Morning

On My last cruise on the Victory I went to the pursers office shortly after sail away and the line up was unbelievable !!!!

I waited until after our late seating at dinner and a show and then went back to the pursers desk. It was about 11:00 pm, No line up at all.

They just took my sail and sign card, swiped it throught the machine and I went back to my cabin checked the television and it was removed.

I enjoyed giving the crew their tips on the last evening, giving me the chance to tell them it was a pleasure to meet them and tip them more than the suggested.

Enjoy your cruise..:)

FIRST stop on the ship after seeing my room is the desk to get the tips taken off my card RIGHT AWAY. Then I give them about $500 in cash for the card.... if we should get close to using the $500 THEN I will go down and let them hook it up to my CC.

Why? Do you tip in cash later?

I was wondering the same thing...

Also, if you do this, PLEASE make sure you tip the behind the scenes people as well... there are several people included in the automatic tips that are forgotten about because they are rarely seen... this is remedied for your steward, since if you remove the tips from your card, the cash you give to him/her is pooled and then distributed.

For those that think it "makes them happier to get cash"... let's see, would you be happy if you were told that the people in your cabin or at your table had removed your tips?????? Your livlihood? Keep in mind that a recent study showed that many that remove tips never do "tip at the end", and the crew KNOWS this, they experience it... They are happy with the S&S tips in place, and if they do a great job, you can tip them extra in cash and it does not have to be pooled... plus, they are paid this money much quicker... just food for thought.

Me too. Since the crew knows who isn't on auto pay I would think they would be more stressed. Besides, thats part of the cruise for me. I know I'm going to tip so let it be automatic.

Now if I get something above and beyound (room service, a special request) I'll tip on the spot. I save up for my trip to INCLUDE tipping. I was on Triumph and on the last night the dining room got REAL empty. It's a shame. People trying to stiff the staff.

Just my $.02.

I agree, it is sad, and pathetic!!! How many people do you think remove tips and then spend so much money during the week, they decide they don't have enough for tips??? I bet ALOT

Now on the other side of the coin,

How about the people who go beyond the standard tipping of $ 70.00 per person per week..

Let's not bash everybody. Just becasue the dining room was empty on the last night does not mean everybody was stiffing the staff.

We spend how many hours ( days ) packing to go on this trip ??????

Now we are spending how many hours packing to go home ? With how many extra souviners ?

I personally had tipped the wait staff above the $ 5.50 Per person per day, I also had Carnival leave the standard tip for the cooks etc. on my S & S

card.

I personally never spoke to the maitr'd once. Could not even see him from where I was seated. ! He did not gget a tip and I ate in the dining room every night but the first night !

A copy form the Carnival website as to where the $ goes.

The total amount will be $10 per guest, per day, which breaks down as follows:

  • $5.50 pp/pd for Dining Team Service (Headwaiter and Waiter)
  • $1 pp/pd for Bistro Service (Waiter/Cooks)
  • $3.50 pp/pd for Cabin Services (Cabin Steward)

Tipping the Maitre D' is strictly at guest's discretion, based upon services rendered. For guests who wish to extend this gratuity in cash, an envelope will be available on the last evening of the cruise.

Tipping still applies regardless of the dining options selected, such as eating at the casual dining restaurant or utilizing room service.

Bar Waiters, Deck Stewards and Bell Boys - Certain personnel, as noted above, may be tipped as service is rendered. A 15% gratuity is automatically added to beverage purchases which the guest may adjust appropriate to the service received.

Happy cruising !:)

Just wondering how some of the above posters know about the staff distribution process of tips & how & when the staff knows if your automatic tip has been removed -why would carnival send out some type of report during the cruise & not wait till the cruise was over for people that like to personally tip in cash to their service people? I would think that this would be in very poor taste for Carnival as they don't know exactly who is tipping & what amounts till the last day of the cruise & what are they trying to accomplish by letting their employees know about the s & s card tips at the beginning of the cruise?

I personally like that Carnival goes ahead and attaches them to your S&S card. It makes it easier and you don't have to worry so much about trying to save the traveler's checks (at least in our case) to cash them and give them to the right people :)

On my last cruise my Mom and I gave our cabin steward about 20 dollars extra (throughout the week) in addition to the regular gratuity he receives. I did it on the first day for him taking our beds apart (I love my Mom but you know), tipped him about 5 bucks and he was so nice and told me he'd give us his best service. He was so incredibly nice and our room always looked great. They work hard, I think they deserve a little extra :)

Yeah, that was my random tangent. Extra tipping is good, that's the point.

I'd agree that there is probably a good number of them. But in days when tips were not put on your account automatically, I'll bet even more of the staff got stiffed on their tips. It makes it a little more work for a passenger to stiff them now, so hopefully that decreases how often it happens to some degree.

My mom and I left our S&S tips on. At the beginning of the cruise, I left $5 for the cabin steward. We went to Bar Blue (on Glory) a good many times. The bar waiter there was really nice and had great service. The night of the Captain's Party, we tipped him, because we figured Carnival was probably not giving him tips since the drinks were on them. And he was good at offering more drinks. At the end of the week, we felt our dining team did exceptionally well. My grandmother was along too. We tipped our Asst. Waitress an addtl $20. We also tipped the Head waiter an addtl. $25. The cabin steward got an addtl. $25 too. I know we tipped the guy who I assume was the asst. maitre' d because he kept coming to see if what they had to eat, was OK for me, since I didn't like the menu (I think $10). I never once encountered the maitre' d in my dining room. we tried to tip the other maitre 'd in the other dining room, who changed our accomodations, but he refused to accept it. They all worked SO hard and deserved it. I know that if I was in their position and people tipped above and beyond, I'd be thrilled.

Don't be the woman who bragged to me on the last day of the cruise. She bragged she took alll of her sign and sail tips off. She tipped $15 to her head waiter, asst. waitress, & cabin steward.

The information is on the manifest they receive (that has the passenger information)... They know exactly who is tipping if people leave the money on the S&S ;) I would imagine most people leave their tips on, and either pay cash tips for exceptional service... or adjust tips down for very poor service...

And I agree, they probably get stiffed much less now with the auto-tips... but I can guarantee you, just in being on these boards for a few years, there are still plenty that stiff them :(

We leave the tips on the sail & sign and then tip extra when we think it was earned. This time we are taking the gold dollars and are going to give those out as our extra. My boss went earlier this year on RCCL and did the same thing and said everyone responed well. Anyone cab give a dollar bill or two but the gold dollar makes it a little different and they remember you when you ask for something special.

Irishnewfie ...... Ya that would work until they figured out the exchange and then for sure they would think they got ripped off....... Or at least wonder where the rest of the tip went to....LOL

The american $ 1.00 coin does looks like our loonie.:)

If you want to personalize it just leave the tips on the S&S and give them a personal thank you card with just a note - some additional cash or a phone card if you like. It just isn't worth getting them taken off and having to hassle with the envelopes and the cash for everyone. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE. Plus putting it on your credit card gives you an extra cash to lose int he casino (did I say that) and an extra 30 or so days to come up with the cash for the card.:D

I just got off the Holiday yesterday. I received very poor service from my room steward in fact she did not bring my past guest party invitation until the thing was over, plus the room was never really cleaned. all she did was change the towels and make the bed. I had sand on my floor from day one. anyway, after about the 4th day of the 5 day cruise I decided she did not deserve the full amount carnival was giving her so we went to the pursers desk and had the tips removed. I then tipped in cash. I did leave her a tip but not as much and I gave extra amounts to my dining service who was wonderful. My parents who had left their tips on their card asked the waiter which he preferred. he said he would rather have the cash in envelopes because they had to wait 14 days to get the ones left on the card. also I asked if they had to share the cash and he stated no that was his.

Oh my GOSH! Did she not realize that a) she sounded stupid, and b) she completely under-tipped them? Sounds like she was a biotch without realizing it.

You know, there is another thread where people were complaining about the service on their cruise - perhaps it's people such as the woman aforementioned by Jenna1983 that frustrate the crew members!
