waterbugohio Posted September 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Just received text from girlfriend who is onboard the Jewel right now. Says: "We are in Halifax. Medivac needed for an employee. Canada coast guard wouldn't ok a chopper. Sent a boat out. Now we have to go full speed to Boston, we may get in just slightly late in the AM. (Very pretty here, Just saw whales, beautiful)" Just thought anyone sailing tomorrow would maybe want a heads up. Will update if she text later
CVU Posted September 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We were on the Jewel? when we saw a low flying plane right by the ship! It was measuring the distance for the chopper and then we had someone taken to the East Coast of Canada for a Med. emergency. I guess it was too far out? wrp96 Posted September 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Hope the employee is okay. Hope the ship can make it as close to on time as possible into Boston - because I'm sure (like on our TA) some people booked early flights.

Desert Cruizers Posted September 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2012 My this cruise has certainly had its share of problems, I do hope the crew member will be alright. We have several friends on this cruise, so know I will hear all about it once they get home.
sanjoseca Posted September 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2012 It's only 355 nautical miles from Halifax to Boston. At Jewel's top speed of 25 knots she could make it by three in the morning. They won't go full speed in order to save fuel, but it seems that there shouldn't be any delay in arrival due to the medical incident.
lb0103 Posted September 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2012 At this moment she is doing 24.7 knots!
sanjoseca Posted September 15, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I should have thought to check the actual speed....thanks. I've noticed that when time is tight the ships will travel at maximum speed until they reach the point where they can make port on time on only one power plant if they have to.
