Gambling on the Century..

I agree.. the slots on Century are very tight. I spent a considerable amount of time in the casino there and very rarely saw any significant pay-outs on the slots. I would advise just throwing your quarters overboard becuase that'd have the same effect as playing the slots on Century.

WARNING. Stay away from the slot machine on the Century that has a clear glass front & shows the quarters, chips & bills inside of it. The name of the machine is THE PIRATE. It is rigged daily by the casino staff. I have personally observed this. It is a RIPOFF.

I've got news for you...all gambling is a ripoff.

Play if it's fun but be secure in the knowledge that you will seldom leave with your own money let alone anyone elses.

Hey my wife won a whopping $18.00 dollars on the slots aboard the Century.

We play the nickel machines (nice cents our money) so it doesn't hurt as much when the bill comes in at the end of the week.

Actually, the way I learned it was a sign in front of a store which said, "Liquor in the front, Poker in the rear."

POQAL,
We have a joint here in Pittsburgh named "Whiskey Dick's."and it is a popular after work spot. I retired a few years ago so I am guessing it is still is a popular joint. They used to do a radio ad on this theme and so I can't be sure of the spelling of "lick her."
A long, long, long (about 1970) time ago: I spent about two weeks in San Diego. There was a joint named "Mickey Finn's". Mickey was a female blond singer and Mr. Fred Finn played the piano. They worked their way into a TV show that lasted a year or so. They had a honky-tonk joint and Santa Claus was illuminated each time they tapped a keg.
Is any of this familar???

Les,
Sounds like a fun joint, but I haven't a clue. I lived in Los Angeles in the 70s. Yup, I'm an original "Valley Girl!" (fer sure!)

Polodad:

Without going into a lot of technicalities, slot machines cannot be rigged daily by the cruise line unless they would go to great expense to change the insides of the machine. It would not be cost effective to do so. The machines in all legitimate casinos are set at the factory by the manufacturer at the specs set up by the owner and are unchanged during the lifetime of the machines.

I don't know why they call it gambling...you enter the casino, you lose all your money then you leave. Where is the gamble in that?? Certainly not on the casino's part.

Danno:

They call it gambling because sometimes you win. My wife won $1600 in the casino on the Century on a ten dollar bill.

Also, I was thrown off by Polodads description of the Pirate machine as a slot machine. That machine is not a slot machine as most people know them. Those machines are very prevalent at the Jersey Shore nearby and almost any carnival or arcade. They are indeed a rip-off but they are also not a slot machine.

Actually, most of the current generation of slot machines can be changed since their payout is based on a random number generator created at the main office and fed to the machines one response at a time (win or lose). The local machine then goes through the actions to produce the result from the main office.

This is how most of the progressive slots work. One central location keeps the master counter to determine payout and the remote machines just feed requests. This way the big paout is spread out among far more machines and more casino owners can say that their potential payout is really big (of course, all the casinos in the pool have an equal chance of winning)

And you would not believe the security to keep the machines honest!

Neal:
You have it reversed, the RNG is in the machine and not in some office somewhere else. THe RNG hits the winning number which generates the winning combo. The machine then reports back to the head office that basically there has been a win and once verified they, reset the progressive amount to be won. They do not reset the RNG or can have any control over it from an office. They only reset the amount to be won.
