whtdog Posted September 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Greetings:) The family is planning a trip to France in May 2013. We will be in Avranches and meeting a cousin in Bayeux to tour Normandy Beaches etc. What is the easiest and earliest way for her to arrive in time to meet us? We have a van rented, (2- 2.5 hours drive time from Mont St Michele/ Avaranches to Normandy?) MERCI!:D Sunny
Rare John Bull Posted September 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Hi Sunny, She wants to get to Bayeux from Paris, right? By train is the way for her to go. 2 to 2.5 hrs from Paris St Lazaire station, a train every couple of hours, most are direct but some involve a change at Caen . Fares from €15 Details at: http://www.voyages-sncf.com/ The auto-translation on the site is OK Sorry, don't know whether it's cheaper to pre-book, or the cheapest way to do so from the USA. De rien ;) JB :)
Sunsailor Posted October 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2012 The train is easy. We did that in 2011 and took the Metro to the St. Lazaire. Bayeux is charming. You can walk to the center of town from the train station in about 10 minutes. Don't miss the Bayeux Tapestries. The story is great..even kids will love it ..and the tapestry is amazing. We took the Overlord tour company's Band of Brothers tour. It was excellent. The next day we took the Churchill Hotel's shuttle bus to Mont St.Michel and returned to Paris the following morning. BTW, Bayeux hotels are very inexpensive but there are not many. If you are planning to stay in Bayeux overnight book your hotel early.
