blueladybug Posted May 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2005 Hi everyone. I need some help. We are looking at going on the Mariner next May. We are a family of 4. Suggestions on rooms to book. Everyone is mentioning aft rooms. Please explain what an aft room is. Also, is it worth the cost for a balcony room? Also, who do you book your reservations with? Do you go directly through RCCL or a travel agent? Thanks in advance
Murphy Posted May 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2005 The aft cabins are those that face the back of the ship. These typically have larger balconies and are greatly requested, especially by those of us who have sailed in them before. Aft cabins should NOT be confused with the cabins toward the back of the ship that face either side (port and starboard). There is no real benefit to getting one of the side toward the back cabins. The balconies aren't any bigger. Is a balcony worth it? You'll get all sorts of responses here, but my feeling is it depends on the itinerary. Don't get me wrong, I love a balcony and sail with one whenever possible, but find we enjoy it more when there are more sea days, and on itineraries where you might be viewing the sites from the ship, such as thru the Panama Canal, or in Alaska where you can watch the world go by.
