bruisin4cruisin Posted October 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Head to the beach, swim. Head to the ship, have a good rest of the cruise...lol. And, don't forget to check the Ports of Call section in these forums. That is going to be more helpful, I bet.
gail811 Posted October 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Depends on what you are looking for. We did a self guided walking tour (do a search on the Bahamas board; a fellow cruiser put the guide on here a few years ago and it was easy to follow) There are beaches within walking distance, or you can catch a cab to the Sheraton and get a day pass; I think we paid $15 each for use of the facilities. And of course, you can always go to the casino at Atlantis :)
IslandToIsland Posted October 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We have gone to the British Colonial Hilton twice. Easy walk from the ship, $50pp for a day pass if you buy online or $55 if you buy at the desk when you arrive. You get a $30 voucher per person for food and drinks. govgurl Posted October 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Our plan is to go to the public beach (Junkanoo beach) first, then to the Fish Fry area for lunch at one of the local eateries, then do the self-guided walking tour. If we have time after all of that we may try to stop by Cabbage Beach, which is supposed to be beautiful.
Colorado Kat Posted October 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2012 I've done the self-guided walking tours, and grabbed a bus-tour as I got off the ship another time. If you have time, scuba or snorkeling is fun.
Colorado Kat Posted October 8, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 8, 2012 I was trying to remember the dive shop. Stuart Cove is the place, but an hour's drive away. They have a free bus. I think they have snorkeling as well.
ambersfamily Posted October 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2012 Hi. We were there in Nov 2012 and here are my favorite things outside of Atlantis in no particular order: Hire Captain Carl for a private whatever you want. Honestly the best money we ever spent on vacation. We have two teen boys and we wanted to do a variety of activities on the water. He took us tubing, snorkeling and sight seeing around the area. He is very laid back and an excellent tour guide. He pointed out the 007 famous houses, Bob Marley's place, and various facts of the area. Make sure to ask him to take you to the dive spots that the other boats go to. If you don't like it, he will take you someplace else. Checkout his web site with the various things. If you want a mix he will do that: bahamaboattours.com If you want to eat -- Visit the Fish Fry. Multiple places to try local food at a great price. Conch Fritters, Peas N Rice, chicken, conch salad. Straw Market - locals are willing to negotiate prices. You know you have to buy a hat or T-Shirt at one point and you might as well do it here. Besides, its near the port. mrsd912 Posted October 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2012 DH and I were thinking about doing a Segway tour, and then winging the rest of the day. Anyone done a Segway tour in Nassau before?
SoCalKJ Posted October 12, 2012 #10 Share Posted October 12, 2012 DH and I are doing this - check out the website www.bestonbahamas.com and click on Nassau...in the snorkeling section...scroll on down to the "Do It All" option. $150/person is absolutely reasonable...considering what other single activities can run....through the cruise lines and separately.
dolfansam Posted October 14, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Ardastra Gardens is a fun place to go. I did this and the British Colonial Hilton on the same day and still had plenty of time for souvenir shopping. It was in January and it was pretty cool so going in the water was out. I enjoyed seeing the exotic animals and exotic plants that were on display.
