Messina to Taormina

Hi,

 

We will be on the Seabourn Pride docking at Messina. We do not want to do the ship's tour because it is too long. Public transportation will not work for us. Does anyone know if there are taxis at the pier in Messina that will take us to Taormina and then pick us up there at a designated time for our return to the ship? How much would a taxi cost?

They are plenty of taxi at Messina dock waiting to take your money.

We were in Taormina in Oct 2012.

NCL docked in Messina, we took the 9:40am train to Taormina for 7.90 Euro round trip. Train ride was about 40 minutes. Train ticket destination is Taormina Giardini. After get off train at Taormina, bus stop to town is right outside Taormina train station. To save time, you can share a taxi with other people. 4 people in a taxi from train station to town should be 15 Euro as of Oct, 2012.

Taormina walk around is straight forward. There is only one main street, one branch to Greek Theater ruin. Entrance fee is 8 Euro, free WC after entrance. There is not much to see about ruins, but the view to mountains and sea side is stunning.

We did this last year. The taxi waited 4 hours for us in Taormina. You should consider a cost of between Euro 200 to Euro 300 depending on how long you want to stay in Taormina, when you get off the ship and how many taxis are waiting at the port. Early taxis will probably charge more - after the rush of passengers leaving the ship has gone, they will be cheaper.

I talked to another person on our ship. He paid 200 Euro for round trip between Messina and Taormina.

 

I saw many taxi in Taormina, may be you don't need to have your taxi waiting for hours for you. Just get another one from Taormina to Messina.
