MIAMI pre&post hotel @ MIA - how far to sites?

We are a mid 40's couple doing 1 night pre-cruise and 1 night post-cruise at one of the hotels located at the MIA airport area (since there is free 7 night parking available and shuttle to port of Miami).

- we have our own car.

we would like to see a different part of Miami other than South Beach. Rustic/Authentic cuban food is something that we want to try. Cuban Culture we want to try.

We are somewhat adventurous but know nothing about Miami and don't want to stumble into the wrong areas.

A. Should we drive or take a train or cab?

B. What region should we visit? we have one day pre-cruise and one day post-cruise.

Thanks.

Okay if you want to be immersed in the Cuban experience, drive to El Palacio De Los Jugos 5721 West Flagler Street. Its inexpensive and fantastic. Warning- most people here will speak a limited amount of English. It doesn't get more rustic than this place

Also Check out Versailles, but make sure to hang out at the counter outside, if you find a group of older men, they will surely be debating Latin American politics.

Go to Little Havana and walk around, see Domino Park, etc. Go into any store marked "Botanica" and check out relics and stuff usually used in the practice of Santeria.
