Na2PtCl4 Posted May 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2005 We're doing the Glacierview Kayaking tour in Juneau, Alaska on a Spirit Cruise in the middle of June. What sort of footwear should we wear? Is it all right to take a regular camera on the excursion, or should we plan on using a waterproof camera?
GoinCruisin Posted May 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2005 Sounds fun!!! You might want to try checking out the Alaska ports of call section... you may get your answers there... good luck and have a great time!!!
jimbug Posted May 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2005 We did sea kayaking in Skagway, so I can imagine it will be generally the same. You can wear any kind of footwear you like - our tour company (booked through Princess) had us take off our shoes and put on their rubber rain boots to keep your feet dry. If you'd rather not, be sure to wear some type of waterproof shoes as you will be stepping in the water to get in/out of the kayak. As for the camera, it is completely up to you. My husband has a rather expensive professional digital camera, and he didn't want to risk it getting wet, so he stored it in one of the "wet bags" that they provided for us (waterproof bags to stow belongings). However, after completing the trip, I can say it would be totally safe to have your regular camera...but there is always that chance you might drop it or the kayak might be tipped over. I would hate to lose a camera like that.
jimbug Posted May 25, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2005 PS--thought I might add one quick solution would be to carry the camera in some type of waterproof baggie, and then only take it out when you are taking a picture.
