jamona2311 Posted November 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2012 Has any one ever stayed here? Its about a half block from the st Charles street car n in the garden district. We got a really good price. Also wondering if we could take the street car to the port somehow???
Chalker Guy Posted November 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2012 We also have booked this hotel for pre and post cruise stays in January. We have not stayed here before, but 2 years ago we stayed right across Prytania street at the Fairchild House. Would have booked it again, but there were no vacancies. We were advised to take a cab to the port, a short ride. Entrance to the port is not pedestrian friendly. We did take the streetcar in both directions, to downtown (Canal Street) and the other direction to Loyola University area. A great (and inexpensive) way to tour the area. Chalker Guy Posted November 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2012 Also, are you aware that it is not really a conventional hotel, but a collection of 1850's vintage houses in a residential neighborhood? If it is like the Fairchild House, rooms will be clean and updated, decorated with antiques, very high ceilings and long staircases if you are on second floor. Also, it is about a 10 minute streetcar ride or a little over a mile walk to Bourbon Street.

rvsullivan Posted November 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2012 No streetcars to the port, and despite some posts, it is not walking friendly to the port either. Cab is the way to go. I also read somewhere else on here that the streetcar tracks were undergoing renovation, not sure where or for how long. Maybe a "local" can update that. Da-Painter Posted November 11, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2012 We also booked this hotel for our cruise next month, both for before and after, the cruise. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor, and they looked good, it was well priced, and thought we would give it a try. Tired of the same ole big mass hotels. Leave a review on Trip Advisor after your stay to rate it. Have fun.;)
Chalker Guy Posted November 11, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2012 I am assuming it is very much like the Fairchild House just across Prytania Street, where we stayed 2 years ago. If so, it is more like a Bed & Breakfast, which we much prefer to a typical hotel.
WLHyatt Posted December 3, 2012 #12 Share Posted December 3, 2012 It's a really nice place, and they are VERY accommodating. We came in town on saturday morning before our Sunday cruise at around 10AM and they went well out of their way to make sure our rooms were ready in a reasonable amount of time. They will call you a cab to the port, and it's $7 per person if there are more than 3 people in your group. Less than 3 people and they will run the meter, which turned out to be around $10 for us, so I left him $13 after the tip. They also allow parking in their lot for the duration of your cruise if you stay two days before or after the cruise. We thought about paying for 2 days on the way out of town and just staying the one night. Voodoo bbq is a block away, Walgreens is a 5 block walk. The streetcar tracks were undergoing maintenance in September when we were there, but they had busses running the regular route. There is plenty to eat along St. Charles, and the bus/streetcar is a cheap way to get to and from the Quarter. The hotel is dated but clean, and is perfect for the price and location. Make sure when you get in the cab at the dock to head back to the hotel that you tell them "prytania park hotel at Prytania and Terpischore" or they will try and drop you on Prytania somewhere. The Creole Creamery is about 10 blocks away and they make their own ice cream, ask about their custom flavors.

Chmie Posted August 12, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 12, 2013 We had done some research on the internet for NO hotels prior to our Sept, 2014 cruise but this board and it's excellent contributors definitely helped make our decision. After looking at all the great hotels we chose the Prytania Park. Although we couldn't book online that far out we emailed them and got an instant response. After a couple of emails and one phone call we booked a King Suite w/balcony ( suite currently being built - ready this October ) for Thur, Fri and Sat at $179/nite. This includes parking. My wife & I are beyond excited about staying at the Prytania and spending 3 days touring NO. :)
