Westbank to Pier?

We stayed at the Westbank Holiday Inn last month (free parking). It's just a little farther down the line from LaQuinta. Seems like the taxi was about $14. The real problem we had was getting a taxi after we got off the Conquest. It was a mad-house, traffic jam nightmare. And then after fighting the crowd for an hour, two taxis turned us down because we wanted to go across the river - they only wanted trips to the airport. We ended up walking to the free ferry, crossing the river, then getting a taxi. The taxis on the Westbank side can take fares across the river to drop off, but cannot come across the river to pick up a fare.

Next time we will park near the pier, or stay at a hotel near the airport that has free parking.

LT:

Were there lots of taxis at the ferry dock on the other bank? - We are considering staying in that area but would need to take taxis when returning from the other side

Zeno -

The Westbank Holiday Inn has a free shuttle to/from the Algiers Point free ferry (but not to the cruise docks). Because of the fiasco getting off the Conquest, and the problem with getting a taxi, we walked (about half mile) to the ferry and crossed to the westbank. The shuttle wasn't there but a taxi happened along (same driver as we had take us to the ship dock). I think the taxis commonly troll along the ferry area, or will respond when called.

(I typed out a longer answer, but it disapeared somewhere - if it shows up, this will be duplicate info)

We are staying at the LaQuinta-Westbank before our cruise. My question is what is the easiest or best way to get to the pier from there? We have free parking at the hotel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it helps we are leaving on July 7.

 They are right, a cab is cheaper, but will be hard at the same time. Try with a company that makes transfers, it could be more, but will be better.

We are planning a Friday night stay at the La Quinta Westbank. Is this a safe area? We want to stay somewhere less expensive on Friday night. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Select on Sat. night before our Sunday departure on the Conquest.

I'm not that familiar with, but I would think it is just fine. If you are driving in from Texas, you are overshooting the mark - but not by much. You will be driving further than you need to, and will have to double back the next day.

Not that big of a deal - just an observation.

Can you give me a better option of somewhere to stay that I will not have to double back. I do not want to stay downtown as I dont want to pay for parking. I am definitely open to suggestions of another area!! Lend me your expertise PLEASE!!:)

You perhaps give me too much credit. I stay with family, not in hotels (usually) when in the area, so don't really have any to recommend. You are only going a mile or two further than you need to, and perhaps a bridge toll (is there still one?).

Not sure where in Texas you are coming from, but if I just wanted to get close and crash (not literally!), probably anywhere from the airport (Kenner) or Metairie would interest me.

What date are you arriving?

We stayed at the Westbank Holiday Inn, just down the road from LaQuinta Westbank. The neighborhood looked a little rough and quite frankly more diverse than we are used to (we understand though, that's why we go visit other places). However, everyone was nice & friendly, and we had no problems at all. Our car was just fine when we got back from the seven day cruise. The Holiday Inn was maybe a two star and a little rough, but we would consider staying there again for the free parking (or maybe move up to the LaQuinta!). If we could find the right deal (read, free parking & reasonable price) we would rather stay on the main side of the river. I think the airport area has some hotels/motels that provide free parking. Much easier to catch a taxi going to the airport after the cruise.

We are coming from the Dallas/Ft Worth area and my goal is simply to find somewhere to sleep on Friday night as we have just decided to go down on Friday instead of Saturday so we can spend the entire day in NOLA on Saturday. We will probably not arrive until 8:00 or so on Friday night, June 24th. I am definitly not opposed to staying somewhere North of NOLA on Friday. Is the airport North of NOLA and would it be out of my way?? Any help you could give me I would appreciate. We will be traveling on I-10 at that point. Thanks!!! Stacey

Airport is West of NOLA but not out of the way - I-10 is adjacent to, just North of airport. Whatever suits your fancy from there on in, along I-10.

LaQuinta at Causeway looks like it might be about the same price/amenities as what you had booked across the river.

Can you give me some idea of what that La Quinta is called?? Bullard?? Anyone know what town/area would be maybe 30 minutes North of NOLA?? thanks

Bullard is New Orleans East - far out of your way unless you are coimn from the East.

This was the one I was thinking of:

I would be about 30 minutes from the airport (Kenner) to downtown, but think that one might be more expensive:

Or maybe the one on Veterans:

http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ580&propId=580&savedSearchQuery=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lq.com%2Flq%2FproxySearchRes.do%3FsearchCity%3Dnew%2Borleans%26searchState%3DLA%26availability.palsra_IND_M%3D%26availability.palsra_IND_D%3D%26availability.palsra_IND_Y%3D%26availability.palsra_OTD_M%3D%26availability.palsra_OTD_D%3D%26availability.palsra_OTD_Y%3D%26availability.palsra_NRM%3D1%26x%3D14%26y%3D9%26mapProvider%3DMapQuest%26searchType%3DGEO%26promocorp%3D

Kenner and Metairie are the areas I might recommend. Baton Rouge is North but is about 80 miles away.

Hope this helps!
