JoanP Posted May 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Since a person cannot travel with scizzors or other cutting tools, how does one remove the cable ties from their luggage when arriving at their destination? A scizzor, cutting tool or knife is not always readily available when arriving (especially late at night) or upon embarkation for a cruise. luv2cruise450 Posted May 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Joan...I put a small nailcutter (preferably one without the nail file attachment) in the outside pocket of one of the check in luggage. Just don't pull the cable tie so tight that you can't get the nailcutter into it. Happy sailing! Guest Posted May 24, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Nail clippers with file are now allowed in your carry on bags. The TSA website has the latest news on airport security. You can always put a clipper or small scissors in an unlocked outside pocket of your checked bag. That is allowed.TSA web site - click here Char click here to send me an e-mail
Happy ks Posted May 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I put a small pair of scissors in the outside pocket of my checked bag, along with extra cable ties for the way home. Kathy
savdoc2 Posted May 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2004 You can now carry-on blunt tipped scissors. And nail clippers with a file are fine. I have carried them both on recently.
Big Al B. Posted May 25, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 25, 2004 If you travel enough,it might pay you to get a set of the new TSA approved locks. They are available in both key and combination style. kathyjack Posted May 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2004 We always carry a book of matches with us and burn the tags off - works great!!! And no worry about getting caught with scissors or etc.
lisajoy Posted May 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Or most likely the airline will take care of removing locks or ties for you. We had ties on all of our luggage and when we picked them up at the airport they had been removed because of inspection. A lot of airlines are asking that you not lock your suitcases anymore. It makes their inspection easier. Also easier for my underwear to be coming out ahead of my luggage on the belt.

Trevoli Posted May 25, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2004 No kidding? I'd always thought that since that doofus tried to set his shoes on fire, that matches/lighter were a no-no. T
