I live farther north than Brechin Big Al but do know it in fact was there in June on our way to Forfar and yes I love mealie puddings to.

Going on the Independence again in June next year a 14 day cruise to the Norwegian Fjords really looking forward to it.

Wow, it must be cold up there!! I remember being in Brechin in August one year and my wife's uncle was setting up the barbie- it was about 55 F outside and my ex was freezing ( coming from Fla., that was cold to her!), and couldn't believe all the Scots were in shorts & t-shirts....thanks for spelling mealie for me...I wonder if there's anywhere I can get them in the U.S.? So I guess the Independence is going back to the UK next spring?

Hey Al! Nice review! I'll be working on mine shortly--great meeting you all at sailaway--sorry we missed the M & M though--we were running late since my daughter was in the cupcake decorating class, and we had early seating on formal night. Loved this cruise--our first real "suite" experience, but debarkation (as everyone has noted here) was the WORST ever! We actually got escorted down to the deck 1 in a crew elevator by the Concierge, and then in line for well over an hour. Barely made it to the airport in time for our 11:20 flight out of FFL.

Chris- Glad you liked the OS...maybe someday we can stay in one ( still working on just staying in a GS!!)...How did your daughter like the cruise? Thanks again for Stella ( LOL)...I kept hoping to bump into you again so I could return the favor, but I tended to see Donna more, and John & Debbie, and Luis & Ana....any plans for something in 2013? Sorry about the Bears..but how did the suite party go? Great finally meeting your family and some of your group...

Al, my daughter loved the cruise! The flowrider was a big hit. Working on my review now. While the Bears were a bit of a disappointment, the suite party was great, and we actually also got a tour of the galley and bridge, courtesy of our concierge!

We've got a Jewel cruise out of Tampa in February--something to look forward to!

Great news on the Jewel...we are doing the Allure 3 night Valentine's Day cruise, then the Disney Dream 4 nighter next Nov....

Al, did you have the compasses you were going to post or should I?

Does anyone have any recommendations of the best way to post them. So many pages. Maybe take photos of each page and post them???

Donna my printer is still acting up- why don't you post them...Thanks!

Yes Al she is coming back over to Europe in April, we sail on her on June 1 and am really looking forward to this cruise.

We really had no summer this year just wet and windy all the summer months, saw on the tv yesterday that the UK is expected to have the worst winter this year for over 100 years so not looking forward to that.

Don't think you would be able to get mealie puddings in the USA , I love them, my cousin lives in Glasgow and he can't get them there so they must be only found from Dundee upwards.

A final point for breakfast: If you find the Windjammer a bit busy or prefer to eat without 2000 people, the MDR now has a small buffet BESIDES the regular menu. So, I ordered my usual eggs benedict ( not available in the WC), then walked up to the buffet and got some hash browns, fruit & pancakes just before the eggs came...I don't dislike the Windjammer, but on port days, it can be busy. We also had breakfast on the balcony the last day at sea .....it really is very nice in the MDR when there's only 100 or so in there..we only ate one morning in the Windjammer and that was departure day...

Great suggestion, Big Al!!!...we also did the same one day, and opted for breakfast in the MDR over the insanity of the Windjammer....I ordered an omelet, and "snacked" on the buffet while waiting!!!!

Indeed it was great, Al, good work on the review!! I couldn't agree more on the arrival and debarkation process, pretty slow...

The rest of the cruise was wonderful!

It was great meeting & hanging out with you both...maybe we can meet up on another cruise some day...our next:

2/14/13 Allure 3 night Valentine's Day

11/03/13 Disney Dream 4 nighter

FYI: Adam Goldstein's assistant, Fiola, called me yesterday around 5:30 PM to tell me that Mr. Goldstein ( CEO) loved my LOS review...she said RCI is always looking for reviews ( both positive & negative) so they can see where they can improve..I have been in contact with Mr. Goldstein for 3+ years now ( e-mail) and he also had his assistant call me when I was the first to post a POSITIVE review of the Oasis cruise on 1/29/10...he liked the fact that it wasn't all wonderful, there were negative issues I thought RCI needed to deal with..imagine sitting at home one day 2 weeks after I sent him my review and I get a call that says on my caller ID "Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines" ....when I answered a lady said, "Mr.Alan XXX?" , I said, "yes".."this is XXX, Adam Golsdstein's assistant"....WOW!!!!!

We talked for 30 minutes!! Since I'm also a cruise agent, I could give her a comparison of RCI compared to the other mainstream lines ( As my review mentioned, I have sailed all but Costa..)...hope all is well..you have my phone # and e-mail in the manual...keep in touch!!

Hope that it's not too hot...there was no wind at all out there and it was about 85 degrees and tough to go up all those steps ( We're not kids)..but the ruins were very nice. Tour guides were great. The River Wallace thing was terrific...the lunch on your own is at a small local place and the menu is VERY limited: hamburgers or the Island dish of seasoned chicken with rice, plantains & beans...THAT'S IT.....beer ( local ) was cold and good...try the banana chips they sell when you get there and leave..nice flavor IMO...any more questions let me know....great ship, great time....

Which night was formal night?

Formal night was the 1st sea day ( Sun ) if you're on the 5 nighter..we did Chops that night....

One more thing......we are doing Chops on 1st sea day also (Sun). What is the acceptable attire? Thanks again!

No shorts, flip flops..I usually wear dockers & Tommy Bahama shirt..wife wore a dress ( not fancy)..some wore jeans, a few had a sport coat on..it's pretty casual to "nice casual"...
