medfordgirl Posted November 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2012 I wanted to take the tour that included the rum cake factory but my DH doesn't want to spend 3 hours in a van. Do you know if I can just take a cab from where the tenders drop us off to the factory? do you know how far it is and how much do you think it would cost? DO you HAVE to be part of a tour to go to the factory? I wanted to buy a couple of their big cakes. I know I can probably get them at other locales but for some reason the one I bought before at the factory was so much better...really soaked in rum. Havin'fun Posted November 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2012 No need to take a cab. When you get off the tender you will walk up a ramp to an area where you meet for tours and there is a store right there. They have samples of all the flavors for you to try. medfordgirl Posted November 19, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 but are they as good? I have bought some on the ship before and they seemed kind of dry.but the ones from the factory were very wet. I mean the cake was like a sponge. the whole room smelled like rum when I opened it up. That's the cake I want again. :p
curacaoqueen Posted November 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2012 The Tortuga factory is out by the airport, you just look through a window to see them being made, there are stores in Georgetown. Have you tried Blackbeards rum cake, so much better.

Have you tried Blackbeards rum cake, so much better. I was reading about that on some other blogs. where can I buy one of them? are they filled with rum? I want to buy a really soaked one so when my son comes home on leave in january then he can take it back with him and enjoy it on base. does the blackbeards have a factory that you can buy direct from ? bkrygowski Posted December 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 9, 2012 Are the prices better in Georgetown than they are here in the states for Rum Cakes. I love Tortuga Rum Cakes, but don't love the $30-40 price tage per cake.
curacaoqueen Posted December 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2012 Both rum cakes are good deals on the island, duty free. Blackbeards have more of a rummy moist flavor.
