On Gran Canary it is about 15 miles from the airport to the port

On Tenerife it is about 35 miles.

 

It is all down to your flights from the UK and what excursions you want to do. I think most excursions for those islands are half day in the mornings so people can than catch afternoon flights.

 

i fly to Tenerife but on a 14 nighter you do get a full day there.
