msmathteacher Posted May 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2005 I get the whole layering thing for daytime, but do people wear mostly wintery dresses or mostly summery dresses? Thanks!
Nancyquilts Posted May 29, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2005 Wear whatever you have that you like (and preferably is comfortable). On all ships you need a wrap from time to time in the dining room, etc. Alaska is no different. Nancy
SkiCruiser44 Posted May 29, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2005 I wear summery dresses - remember it's indoors in the evenings and I found that I was warmer in Alaska on the ship in the evenings than in the Caribbean they have the heat on not A/C. I do bring a wrap but my formal dresses are sleeveless - not a problem. Hope this helps. Kathy
msmathteacher Posted May 29, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted May 29, 2005 Thanks for the help. I guess I'll go summery. I'm really sick of winter.
barbarabeeb Posted May 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2005 just back from alaska... I had 3 formal dresses that were sleeveless. I was glad i had them it was HOT on the entire ship. I think they had the heat cranked up the whole time.
phtktz3 Posted May 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2005 I, also, wore sleeveless dresses in Alaska. It is warmer in the dining room than on any of the Caribbean cruises I have been on. A few times I ventured outside after dinner for a few minutes but to be honest the crisp air felt good.
Treacher1 Posted May 31, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Did men wear tuxedos on formal night?
SkiCruiser44 Posted May 31, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2005 I'd say you'll see 50% or less in tuxes. My husband has worn one in the past but this time is going the suit route. A dark suit does just fine.
RenieRaider Posted May 31, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Not to many tuxes but not out of place. Dresses for formal evening are mostly black. Sleeveless with a shawl.
SkiCruiser44 Posted May 31, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Are you peeking in my closet? That's exactly what I'm wearing both nights black dresses. Hides a multitude of sins!!
cruisinzoe Posted May 31, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Can a man wear a blue blazer and tie for formal night or is a dark suit better? Can a woman wear dressy black pants? What do you wear for informal night? We are doing a land tour in Alaska also and we are trying to minimize what we pack. Thanks.
SkiCruiser44 Posted May 31, 2005 #12 Share Posted May 31, 2005 In my opinion a dark suit would be better, dressy black pants are fine - you'll see everything from dressy pants, cocktail dresses & long formals on women. Informal nights I'm wearing dressy pantsuits (not formal with beads or anything) pretty much what you might wear to church or the like. My husband will wear a jacket but not a tie -(mock turtleneck silk shirts). Hope this helps.
cruisinzoe Posted May 31, 2005 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Do you know how many formal/informal nights are on a 7 day cruise? We are on the Summit in July. I read somewhere there was 1 formal, 1 informal and the rest of the nights were casual. Thanks.
Ma Bell Posted May 31, 2005 #14 Share Posted May 31, 2005 There are always two formal nights, one or two informal and the others casual. The blazer is appropriate for informal and a dark suit or tux for formal.
cruisinzoe Posted May 31, 2005 #15 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Would my husband really be out of place with a blue blazer and dark pants for everything? Can he wear his dark suit for informal nights as well so he doesn't have to take another jacket. We don't want to drag around a lot of formal wear during our land tour (which we are doing on our own). Also, can we choose to eat somewhere else during these formal/informal nights? Thanks. SkiCruiser44 Posted May 31, 2005 #16 Share Posted May 31, 2005 First you can eat elsewhere and if he were to only take 1 dress up thing I'd say take the suit and eat casual on the informal nights and it's possible that there well only be one of those. I wouldn't get too caught up with the informal dress.
