Carnival Legend Review I never knew I would write!

We just returned 12/23 on the Legend. My complaints are mostly minor of the cruise in general, but the ship has one major design flaw that I haven't seen addressed much. I am highly sensitive to cigarette smoke, and the location of the casino is close to the lobby. The cigarette smoke smell makes its way up the entire atrium and into all of the floors above. As you get further away from the atrium the smell goes away, but it is the first ship I had been on that the smoke was so prevalent, especially in highly traveled areas like the shops, photo gallery and lobby. Most other ships I have been on I didn't even see the casino until 4-5 days into the cruise. Our 3 extended balcony cabins outside doors wouldn't stay closed unless we locked them from the inside (which defeats the purpose of having connected balcony cabins with the partitions opened). It was windy and the doors were whistling.

Staff was great, food was good, as expected. Ports were great.

I was also on the 12/23 Legend. I often took the main artrium elevators to my room as our room was midship. I don't know what the other poster is talking about with the smoke. You can't smell the smoke in the main lobby or anywhere near those elevators. The only place I smelled smoke was in the immediate casino area and did not feel it permeated throughout the ship.

Smoke sensitive people can smell smoke from miles away.

That said I was recently on the legend and did find that the lobby area could smell of the smoke from the casino, not always but sometimes for sure.

The immediate deck above, where the photo gallery was located could also smell of such smoke as well, however did not find it above that area and certainly did not find it permeating the ship. We ate twice in the steak house which is at the top of the atrium and never could smell smoke...well excpt the odor from meat, onions and mushrooms being grilled and sauted. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

We sailed on the Legend starting 12/23/12 until 12/30/12 and had a great time. I definitely back up that Nick from the entertainment staff was very funny!

All of our excursions were booked through Carnival, we only did this to be on the safe side with times and things.

In Cozumel ~ we went on the Atlantis Submarine.

In Belize ~ we went to Altun Ha (mayan ruins) & Belize City tour.

In Roatan Island ~ we didn't have any excursion planned, we walked around and shopped then walked down to the beach where we rented paddleboats then had lunch right near the beach.

In Cayman Islands ~ we did the Best of Cayman Island tour.

Another heads up for Nick. Maria from the Phillipines was new a few cruises back and very shy. NOT NOW! She was on the panel at the Liars Club show. What a hoot! So many double entendres!

There always seemed like something to do. There are about 4 or 5 tables near the bar in the casinoo where somoking is allowed. Smoking allowed in Satchmo's where they had a great band but few people in there.

It's a really easy ship to navigate, no dead ends. Obstructed balconies, except for the first few where the boats are larger, are not obstructed except to look straight down into the water.

The taste bar replace sushi outside the casino. Sushi is on Lido.

The Captain got us out of each port about 10 to 20 minutes early. On the way to Tampa he had us going 22 knots most of the time. Got in right on time.

Me. Pete, as specifics you want?

Maria was a riot on the Liars Club panel, everything she said was so drawn out but funny. Jen (Punchliner Comedy Club manager/entertainment staff) was also a hoot!

Ice Carving demo it was so worth it, it was my first time going to one in all of the Carnival cruises I've been on.

I love children but one of my favorite spots is the Serenity Deck (Adults only, 21+) especially after a long day in port.

You'll have fun!! I'm already ready for another cruise lol but I have to wait until April 26th. Going on a 9 day on the Carnival Sunshine from Barcelona to Marseilles, Livorno, Rome, Naples, Messina, Dubrovnik and Venice. We fly home from Venice. Then on July 2nd we're going on a 7 day to Alaska on the Carnival Miracle.
