Can you snorkel with glasses?

There are prescription masks available in several strengths and dive shops sometimes have them available for rent. There is a thread here which discusses the subject in length: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=276871&page=2

If your tour guide/dive shop doesn't have anything available, you can always improvise with a cheap mask. Here is a link to a video which shows how to rig an old pair of glasses to a mask: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7KujC0KsWw If you try this, you should invest in "Sea Drops", or another anti-fog treatment for the lenses.

I've also heard that the masks almost act as a pair of glasses themselves. My BF wears glasses and commented that he could actually see quite well without them with the mask on and under water.

My dad has horrible eyesight (almost legally blind), and even he commented that with the mask he could see ok without his glasses on. Not as good as he would have liked to, but coming from a person who literally can't do a thing without his glasses on, that's pretty good. ;)

Shoot I also should've asked...can you wear glasses for the dolphin encounters?

If you are talking about the dolphin encounter in atlantis, you may wear glasses. I went with my sun glasses (i wear contacts) and my younger brother wore his glasses (prescription)

see my picture here. That was taken at atlantis dolphin encounter. (also available at http://www.vincentwong.info/about)

No problem, they require you to wear their wetsuit and provide you with a free locker, they do not allow jewelry as it can startle the dolphins and they do not permit cameras as they take the pictures for you and charge an arm and a leg. It is well worth it though because its a once in a lifetime experience. I recommend getting the cheapest CD package because you will get all your pictures and you can re-print them whenever. Our pictures came out great with my family and we all loved our dolphin, her name is Palmer.

When I first started scuba diving, I used boat window sealing silicone to attach old glasses lenses to the outside of the mask lenses leaving the top and bottom unsealed so that water could wash thru them. That worked great!

In the video above in this thread--I think the lenses inside would be an invitation to fog up and be hard to defog if that's even possible. The lens distance is more natural with lenses inside, but outside worked for many years until the mask wore out with never a fogging problem................

I cannot see anything without my glasses. The only time I ever went snorkeling they had me fold up my glasses and put them inside the mask. That worked okay but was pretty uncomfortable because they pressed against the bridge of my nose. Also you end up looking through the folded up arms of the glasses which can be kind of annoying. For me I didn't have much choice because I really cannot function without my glasses.

I haven't used them myself but have friends who purchased diopters for their mask. Some of my friends with glasses didn't need anything underwater because water is a natural magnifier. You might practice snorkeling in a pool to see if that works for you. You might talk to a local dive shop in your area about getting diopters for your mask or ask an eyeglasses place. You can order a prescription mask or get stick on diopters for your existing mask.
