NYDAD Posted December 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2012 I will be on Carnival Ecstasy in February. I want to snorkel in Nassau in mid February. Will the water be too cold?
OCruisers Posted December 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2012 You might consider wearing a Wet Suit if you really want to snorkel. ~~~~
NYDAD Posted December 26, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Do you know if I can you rent a wet suit when I am there?
Laurie S. Posted December 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Just buy a rash guard, it also will help with sunburn prevention.
The Flying Pirate Posted January 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2013 Do you know if I can you rent a wet suit when I am there? Yes most dive shops and dive/snorkel tour operators will rent wet suits. For snorkeling a shorty wetsuit would work well, and they are inexpensive to rent. Most places charge like $5 for the day to rent a shorty.
paisley201 Posted January 25, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2013 I was going to ask this question too as we are doing the power snorkle excursion in February. Would you buy just the rash guard shirt or the full suit? Thanks.
G.C Posted January 25, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2013 With the water temperature in the mid 70`s I would not enjoy snorkeling with just a rash guard. If your in Nassau I`ll guess Stewart Cove is the operator? I know they have plenty of rental wetsuits as do most outfitters in Nassau. It was 74 surface temp 3 weeks ago when I spent a week diving the Exumas and not a single person had less than a 3mm full suit with hood.
dancindr Posted February 6, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2013 A few years ago we snorkeled Nassau late January. Ambient temp 78, water temp around 70. brrr! It was possible without a wetsuit, but only for about 20 minutes at a time. Since then, I'll always wear a short wetsuit in the Caribbean that time of year. Allis154 Posted February 6, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2013 I think the tolerance to cold water may also depend on where you are from. 70 water sounds fine to me...it rarely reaches more than that in the summer here!
IfishSitka Posted February 8, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 8, 2013 I will be on Carnival Ecstasy in February. I want to snorkel in Nassau in mid February. Will the water be too cold? Being from Seattle we find the water great in Feb. In December we snorkeld in Florida and the bahamas without any hesitation.
klc0472 Posted February 21, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2013 We just returned from the bahamas, virgin islands and Grand Turk and snorkeled at each location and the water was very tolerable for us with no wetsuit.
